CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
WINS AND LOSSES
≪ ◦ ❖ ◦ ≫"SENSEI? CAN I TALK TO YOU FOR A SECOND?"
Mercy grabbed the strap of her sport's bag nervously. She's been thinking a while about this and this decision wasn't an easy one.
Kreese turned around, his eyebrows barely raised in surprise.
"Of course, Miss Santiago. What's bothering you?"She's glad that Silver had already left them, for some reason she's kinda scared of him and honestly, it's way easier to talk to Kreese about that issue that she's having.
Mercy kept looking in the direction of his office, ultimately making him understand that she wanted to talk in private. Not that anybody was here, they're all alone, even Robby had to rush off somewhere.
"I see," he said and waved for her to go ahead.
She didn't even wait until the man had sat down behind his desk.
"I'm quitting after the All Valley."His eyebrows raised in surprise, he folded his hands together, waiting for an elaboration on her statement.
"Why's that?" He asked her.
Mercy sighed as she took a seat across from him.
"I'll be eighteen in September, it's gonna be my last All Valley anyway. Also, I really need to focus on school, college applications and all that stuff. Senior year won't be easy.""So, you think it's okay to squander the talent that you got?" He didn't even seem mad, nor really surprised by that statement. Even though it's only half of the truth.
"I'm not squandering anything. I'll give everything I got during the tournament, I swear. But after that, I'm done." She nodded at her words, letting him know that he could try to convince her to stay, but that it wouldn't be of use.
There was silence for a moment before the man started speaking again.
"Alright. Just keep in mind that Cobra Kai's doors will always be open for you."As she left the dojo, she took a look at the writings on the wall again. Strike first, strike hard, no mercy. Kreese's words replayed in her mind and the door closed behind her. Mercy didn't belong in Cobra Kai, it was that simple.
Miguel got thirty minutes recovery time. It doesn't seem that bad, at least that is what she heard from the whispering of the medics.
Although she's concentrated on watching Robby fight his semifinal against Demetri, she somehow also thinks about Miguel. At least his well-being.
She might not care about him anymore in a romantic and friendly way, but that doesn't mean that she enjoys seeing him get hurt.
But watching her boyfriend fight against his former friend right now is more important. It's 2-0 for Robby, obviously, and there is no chance at all for Demetri to win.
On the other side of the mat stands Sam next to her father, having found Mercy's eyes. It'll only be a few more minutes until it's their turn to fight. Just the thought of being able to finally kick the brunette's face paints a smile on Mercy's face.
