The weekend of the community garden event crept up a lot faster than you had expected. Thankfully, the day you ditched school with Jin had gone unnoticed by your parents since Leah had done her damndest to cover for you, telling your teachers that you had stayed home due to a freak stomach flu. But all of that paled in comparison to how your day at the beach went.
It felt so real, your feelings for him. You knew it was probably foolish to think about love, especially at such a young age, but you couldn't help the way you felt. Jin was comfortable and warm. He made you feel desired but not objectified like most guys do. It was refreshing to say the least, and yet, you still found yourself stumbling over the fact that you can't verbally express any of this to him without your entire body overheating with embarrassment.
Despite that minor setback, things felt like they were going along smoothly. You still met with Jin after your academy prep courses–even though your parents heavily disapproved of you finishing up with the courses. Nevertheless, you still managed to juggle things quite easily that you were beginning to think that you didn't have to worry about anything.
"Remember, we're to be a united front." Your father reminds you the morning of the community garden event. His voice breaks through your thoughts, grounding you back into the moment as he continues to speak. "I was forewarned that the Kim family will be in attendance, so we should keep things civil." Turning to you, your father's expression evened out. "You will do your best to avoid them at all costs. It is in your best interest to not involve yourself with them."
You thickly swallow the lump in your throat. There's an ember of defiance that wants to tell your father that Jin is not a problem, but you remain quiet. The last thing you wanted to do was start an argument with your father when he's been slowly loosening up the reins–figuratively speaking, of course.
A small seed of guilt is planted in your gut as you meet your father's stern gaze. You and Jin had already planned out how the two of you would meet with one another at the garden event. It required some tact and maybe a fib or two, but it was the only way either of you would have freedom to share a few stolen moments with one another. You were set on telling Jin how you felt today. Today felt right.
After breakfast, you and your parents headed to the community garden in the restaurant delivery van. Your father had volunteered to provide some food for the event, partnering up with a few other restaurant owners in the neighborhood. The quaint yet upscale neighborhood you lived in was tight-knit for the most part. Most of the people who lived near you were on the friendlier side.
You help your parents set up the tables that run alongside the inner circle of the garden. Placing various food items on the table, you then prepare the utensils for people to take as they go through the line. The event was quite a spectacle as you slowly watched a crowd trickle through the main entrance of the garden.
