Anakin's POV

I'm not sure when it happened...when Kels Remlik became the most important thing in my life.

Maybe it was when she dragged me into that old record store, or when she punched that creep in the face at 79s, or maybe it was when she first lulled me to sleep on that ship headed to Canto Bight. It happened slowly and before I could even attempt to stop it, my number one priority became her.

I know I made an oath to the Jedi order. But uninformed declarations made as a child were nothing compared to the promise, I made to Kels once those three words left my mouth.

I love you.

A promise to protect her, to care for her, to always be there. A promise to not let her fall alone.

I think I have known for a while. But I was holding myself back. Not allowing myself to fully go there unless I knew I could hold up my end of the promise. Not until I had finally made my choice.

It's her. Always.

I'd figure everything else out later. Because right now, I was content to just follow her around this greenhouse. Watching as she bounded from tree to flower, identifying each one. I could listen to her talk for hours about the memories and stories from her childhood that accompanied each plant she'd point out.

I wanted to hear more. I wanted to know everything there is to know about Kels Remlik.

The way the corners of her mouth pulled into a gentle smile as she beheld each plant with care, her steady silver gaze that sent my heart soaring but simultaneously tethered me to her, her bright laugh that became my favorite sound. I was captivated by her. And being loved by her is a fucking privilege.

Of course, I had been able to feel what I thought was love pouring off her, in those fleeting moments she let her mental barrier slip. But hearing her actually say it out loud, with her unique brand of quiet confidence...I was a fucking goner.

She has become the focal point of my world, and I would move fucking mountains for her.

The realization caused my heart to surge with a strange mixture of bliss and fear. This was beyond anything I had ever felt before. Because of her, my heart now lives outside my own body and I'll go to the ends of the galaxy to protect it if needed. I'd strike down whatever and whoever intends to cause her harm.

"Hey, come here." I mumbled, a lazy smile spreading across my face as I pulled her towards me just as she was in the middle of identifying yet another lily variant. With a giggle, she obliged and buried her head in my chest.

Wrapping my arms around her, I relished the feeling of her against my body, safe and happy. I inhaled deeply as I dropped my chin to rest on her head. That familiar scent of sweet honey and soothing jasmine calmed my racing thoughts.

"Sorry, I'm rambling." Kels said, her voice muffled by the fabric of my shirt.

"No, you're not. I'm listening." I replied, pressing a kiss into the top of her head. I felt her slender arms snake around my midsection as she pulled me closer. Swallowing hard, I wondered if she could hear how it made my heart jump.
