Anakin's POV:

The soles of my boots hardly even touched the ground.

My lungs screamed from lack of oxygen, but I demanded more from them as I flew down the temple hallways, willing my limbs to move faster.

"Fucking move." I exclaimed roughly at those in my path, not even caring if I clipped an unassuming shoulder or cut off an inconspicuous senator. I needed to get to the kitchen. The blind panic spurred me on even quicker and my heart felt as though it might crack my rib cage as it thrashed in the direction of the girl it belonged to.

Just as I had feared, as soon as I was pulled away from her, fate would try to claim her. I should have known better than to allow Obi-Wan to coax me into a quick conversation with the council when he found me in the dining hall. He insisted it would only be five minutes at most, and then I could return to my watchful post. But not even a second after I stepped into the fucking council room, I felt it. We all did.

Something was about to happen.

I ignored the demands from my master and the council who ordered me to stay put. To gather the brain trust and figure out how to proceed as a unit. But the all-consuming pull of my heart quickly snapped any remaining threads of responsibility, and I was gone. Only one objective occupied my mind.

Get to her. Just fucking get to her. Before it's too late.

My skin absolutely itching in sinister anticipation, every nerve receptor firing off in warning. The force roared through my bones and pulsed in my ears, urging me to move faster.

"No, no, no, no," I found myself repeating through clenched teeth.

Because as soon as I rounded the corner into the dining hall, I witnessed the entire far-end façade crumble with a deafening roar and a bright white flash. The impact of the blow had me throwing my hands in front of my face, creating a shield from the airborne particles as I was practically flung off my feet.

Once I regained my footing, my head snapped upwards to see that the door separating the kitchen from the dining hall had suddenly been buried under a mountain of rubble. I sprinted towards the debris that effectively cut me off from Kels and felt the dread slam into my body.

The air was ripped from my throat as I practically clawed through the heap of wreckage.

"Kels!" I screamed, my voice sounding mangled and completely foreign to my ears.

There was no answer.

And suddenly the sickening sound of blasters pierced through the air from the other side of the rubble. Screams ensued and I threw every ounce of force in my body at the chunks of solid marble and dust in front of me, they began to lazily roll away in my path. But it was too slow as the sound of chaos only intensified. I needed to find an alternate way in.

But my blood ran cold. I was too late.

Kels's POV

While it seemed as though fate hasn't been on my side recently, it had perhaps given me my one and only assist by way of ensuring Rala and I slid beneath a durasteel counter as a result of the powerful blast.
