Unburdened Identity

My parents, guardians of my growth,
Never cast me as a weight to bear.
My father's love, a river's flow,
My mother's care, a constant prayer.

Yet time unfolds society's decree,
My mother's teachings - the perfect mold,
Wife and daughter-in-law, as they foresee,
Within these lines, my worth they've sold.

I hear my dear parents whisper at night,
I see the worry lingering in their eyes as time passes,
And i wonder if i am anything but a burden.
Can my value bloom beyond this role?

Marriage is not what defines a woman.
Starting a family is not what defines a woman.
Reputation is not what defines a woman.

A vibrant flame destined to shine blindingly bright,
I define myself - beyond limitation.
