Bella's POV:

I woke up, and Edward had kept his promise. I was in his arms on the forest floor, I could hear the birds tweeting and the squirrels pattering along the tree above us. I didn't want to get up, but my phone rang.

I stood up and Edward looked at me curiously.

"I'll call you when I'm done. It's my dad, I want some privacy, okay?" I said to him.

Edward nodded, and in a blink of an eye he was gone.

I answered the phone, and it was not my dad's voice on the other end.

"Hello, Bella." A gruff voice with a heavy accent chimed. Somehow they still managed to sound like bells.

"Who's this?" I asked, slightly scared.

"Don't worry about it. I need you to do something for me." The voice said.

"What?"

"I need you to meet me somewhere."

"And if I don't?"

"You'll never see that precious family of yours again. Not just the Cullens, but your real family as well."

It felt like the air was punched out of me, and I immediately regretted sending Edward away. However, I was happy, too, because I knew he would put himself and his family in danger trying to protect me again. He wouldn't let me do this.

"What do you want from me?" I asked, going through my mind everyone who holds a grudge on me or Edward. There weren't many, just Zoey and Jacob. Jacob would never do this, and I wasn't a great judge of character but I knew Zoey wouldn't stoop this low.

"I want what's rightfully mine, but you stand in the way of it."

"What?"

"Edward."

Okay, so it's definitely not Jacob, unless he's got something to tell me. And it's definitely not a guy. Unless they're trying to come out of the closet or something.

"Okay either you're a girl and you didn't plan your disguise yourself very well because you just told me your gender, or this is a really creepy way to tell me you're coming out of the closet. Which is it?"

The voice sighed, and said, "I'm a girl."

I don't know why, but that was comforting.

"Well, where should I meet you?" I wasn't going to put them in danger again. I didn't want to fight for Edward anymore, especially when I didn't really deserve him anyway.

"How about six miles north from where you are right now?"

My heart got lodged in my throat. This person knew where I was. This person was merely six miles from where I was right this second.

"Okay," I choked, "when?"

"Right now."

"Right... right now?"

"That's right. And don't bring anyone. I'll know. And you'll regret it."

The nostalgia was so strong right now, it's like the person was repeating the exact words of James.

"Okay..." I whispered. The line disconnected, and I dropped the phone. I was stuck like that, until I found my body again and picked up the phone. I looked at my compass app, and started walking north. Until my phone rang again.
