O L I V I A
I'm alone in the college studio, working on assignments after a long day of classes. While my friends are out having fun, I decided to stay and study. After hours of work, I start to get a slight headache. I sigh and rub my temples, glancing at the window with its pretty view of the campus. Just then, my phone buzzes on the table. It's my mom calling, so I pick up right away.
"¡Hola, ma!" I greet her enthusiastically, leaning back in my chair.
"¡Livia, mi amor, ¿cómo estás?" She affectionately greets back and I chuckle.
(Livia, sweetheart! How's everything going?)"Todo está bien, ma. Just busy with assignments,"
(Everything's good, mom)"Are you eating well? And are you getting enough rest?" She inquires and I laugh softly.
"Sí, ma, I promise I'm taking care of myself. Your daughter's a responsible adult now," I tease and she chuckles.
"I know, mi amor, but a mother's job is never done. Plus, I want to make sure you're not surviving on instant noodles and takeout,"
"Don't worry. Your homemade meals are the best, and I enjoy every bite," I reassure her.
"Speaking of, next week, I'm shipping you a care package of homemade goodies and, por supuesto, tus favoritos. Necesitas más sabor de casa," she chuckles lightly in response.
(Of course, your favourites. You need more flavour from home)"¡En serio? You're spoiling me, mamá. But I don't think you should send them next week. I still have some of the food you sent two weeks ago," I tease and there is a brief pause before my mom sighs dramatically.
"Ay, mi vida, you never finish your meals! ¿Por qué?" She scolds.
"Lo sé, mamá, pero your cooking is so good that I always want to savor every bite slowly," I respond with a grin, and she sighs again, then my eyes wander to the clock on the wall. "Well, I have to go," I say reluctantly and mom pouts playfully.
"Alright, mi amor. Take care," she says softly and I smile.
"I will. Gracias por todo, mamá," I thank her warmly.
"De nada, mi amor. I'm always here for you," she responds with warmth, her love shining through the phone.
"I miss you, ma," I confess suddenly, a touch of homesickness in my voice.
"Me too, Livia. But I'm so proud of everything you're doing at college. Keep working hard, and recuerda que te amo,"
"Te amo más, mamá. Hasta pronto," I respond, feeling the warmth of her love even through the phone.
(I love you more, mom. See you soon)
