"Sweet Jesus, who is this?" Sam says.
"We'll know it soon enough," Jordan responds.
"My name's Ace King. I'm your new visual art professor," he speaks briefly, his voice commanding attention, and his eyes lock onto mine.
As he stands before everyone, I can't help but notice his confident stance, tall stature, and commanding presence. He wears a white button-up shirt and black slacks that highlights his strong physique, and his dark hair slightly falls over his forehead, adding to his sophisticated appeal.
"New professor? More like a Greek god. Oh, my!" Sam whispers, and I can't help but agree. "Oh my fucking gosh, he's looking at us," she giggles, clutching onto my arm.
"Where's professor Alejandro?" A girl asks.
"Alejandro had an accident on the stairs in his house. He unfortunately broke his leg and he's hospitalized," he informs calmly, his voice authoritative, as a wave of gossip ripples through the room.
"That's it!" Jordan suddenly exclaims. "He's the man from your drawing, isn't he?"
"Have you met before?" Sam intervenes.
"Uh...kind of," I absentmindedly answer, feeling an inexplicable connection with this man whose gaze seems to penetrate into my very thoughts.
"All right. I'm going to pass around a list for you to write your names on so I can get to know you better," he declares and I break our eye contact.
"How did you meet?" Sam questions, her curiosity burning brightly.
I glance at Ace, his gaze still holding mine, and feel a jolt of something unexplainable.
"It doesn't matter," I say, trying to divert the topic.
"It does matter, girl!" Jordan protests, giving me an incredulous look.
"When was that?" Sam wheedles, clearly not ready to drop the subject and I sigh inwardly.
A week passed since that night at my place, but I'm keeping the details to myself. I haven't even shared it with Jordan to avoid unnecessary worry and complications.
"Come on, Livia! Spill the beans," Sam coaxes, leaning in closer.
"We met three weeks ago. It's a bit of a long story," I blurt, hoping my vagueness will deter them from prying further.
Thankfully, they seem satisfied with my response and don't push for more. The conversation shifts, and as the list gets to us, we jot down our names.
"The fact that Alejandro's no longer here doesn't mean you can relax. Let's get something straight—I won't be going easy on you. Though, we'll start off with something light today. I'm going to give you a test to assess your abilities. I want to see what you're capable of," Ace's deep voice fills the room as he takes up the list of names.
