After changing, I put on a comfy linen shirt with rolled-up sleeves, chino shorts, leather sandals, and sunglasses. Olivia looks breathtaking in her floral sundress, slip-on sandals, her straw tote bag and the necklace I gave her.
We head to a nice beachside restaurant and pick a table with a great sea view. We order delicious food and cool drinks. While we eat, we chat about all sorts of things.
I throw in a few jokes and tease Olivia playfully, making her laugh. Her laughter sounds wonderful to me, and I admire how the sun perfectly kisses her skin, making her glow even more.
As we eat, I wonder about Olivia's feelings toward joining my life as a thirty-five-year-old divorced dad and helping me raise my daughter. However, I don't want to bring it up now and spoil the mood.
"I've always wondered about something," I begin, catching Olivia's attention as she looks up at me. "Remember the day we first met? You were running late for class, and, well, we had that little accident. What was your first thought when you saw me?"
Olivia blushes, shifting in her seat. Her eyes briefly meet mine before she looks away.
"I thought you were kind of intimidating at first," she confesses with a chuckle. "But then you helped me pick up my things and asked me if I was okay, and I realized you were actually really kind, and well, attractive,"
Her answer warms my heart, and I smile back at her.
"And, um, what did you think of me when we first met?" Olivia asks, her voice soft and hesitant, and I smile warmly.
I reach across the table and gently hold her hand, my thumb tracing soothing circles on her skin.
"Well, when we first met, I was actually pretty annoyed. I was on my way to see my lawyer about my divorce, and that whole situation was stressing me out. But then, you bumped into me, and everything changed," I pause. "The instant our eyes met, I couldn't help but feel drawn to you. It was like meeting you was exactly what I needed in that chaotic moment of my life,"
Olivia's expression softens, and she squeezes my hand gently.
"Really?"
"Yeah. Your eyes were so kind, and I felt this instant connection," I continue. "It's funny how life works sometimes. In the midst of all the stress and chaos, we found each other,"
"And I'm so glad we did," she says sincerely, strengthening my feelings for her.
I raise her hand to my lips and kiss her fingers tenderly. Her smile grows as she affectionately looks into my eyes. Then, a female colleague of mine suddenly shows up at the restaurant entrance, casting a frown at the sight of us together. I curse quietly at the bad timing. I notice Olivia's worried expression and I reach under the table to gently squeeze her knee.
