Xaden mockingly states that it's Violet's turn. Rhiannon braces herself as she turns to look at Violet and me.
"I'll wait for you on the other side."
"We'll see you on the other side."
Violet says confidently, but I could see the fear in her eyes. The rider with the scroll asks for Violet's name. Violet states her name proudly. The scroll asks the question about the general. I see the war fill Violet's eyes. She braces herself to walk across the parapet.
"I thought she only had one daughter?"
"I get that a lot."
I watch as Violet slowly starts her journey across the parapet. Riorson steps next to me.
"What is the general's pet doing here. I thought you were given another year for the loss of your mommy."
I whip around extremely close to him.
"It's none of your fucking business, but I am going to enjoy wiping that smirk off your face every chance I get."
Violet hasn't quite left the entrance when the wind blows her over a bit. I lunge forward as if I could help her. He grabs the back of my tunic and holds me back. Violet regains her balance.
"And you think you're going to be able to ride? Some Sorrengail with that kind of balance. I pity what ever wing you end up in."
The rider with the scroll asks for a name again. I try to wiggle out of Xaden's grip, but he holds me back and ushers the guy behind me forward.
"Jack Barllow. Remember the name, I'm going to be a Wing leader one day."
"You better get going Sorrengail. Unless you need a little motivation."
Xaden says to Violet as he raises his other hand as if he would shove her.
"I'll see you shortly, don't worry and go kick some ass."
I say as I rip my soaked tunic out of his grip. He scowls at me. I lean into him.
"Don't forget who kicked your ass that night on the mat."
I quickly look up and see Violet walking across the parapet. I hear her listing out facts to calm herself.
"You will only get that chance once, pet."
The rider with the scroll looks at me and asks my name.
"Talon Highbrooke. Daughter of Naolin."
His eyes gape as he nods and writes it down. Violet crouches and I tighten. She stands up and continues her trip. Jack coming her way. Rhiannon at the 3/4 mark. Violet can do this. I know she can. Jack is stalled at the 1/4 mark and I bounce up and down.
"Keep moving Violet!"
Jack throws the candidate in front of me off the parapet.
"You're next Sorrengail."
I jump on the parapet. I have done this a hundred times. I am so far from them. Violet is scared and I can see it. I'm getting closer but not close enough.
"I'm coming for you Sorrengail."
I'm running and everyone is watching me. Rhiannon is safe. Jack is too close to Violet. He calls all kind of remarks to her. Violet continues moving and she is getting so close to safety. Violet runs and so does Jack. I am almost behind him. Violet drops and holds a dagger to Jack's balls. I step behind him and put mine to his neck. I'm not safe, but neither is Jack. Violet is though and that is all that matters to me.
"I think I'll be safe... For right now."
Violet says while catching her breathe.
"Will you?
