வீண் சோகம் ஏனடி மானே ஏனடி?
(Oh silver moon! Oh silver moon!
Why is the unnecessary distress dear?)The midday sun spilled its golden warmth across the school premises. The school bell chimed, signalling the hour for lunch. The students scattered like leaves in the gentle breeze, spreading laughter and chatter over the premises, freeing themselves from the academic routine temporarily.
Saanvi was absent that day. Krishna and Ajay got up from their places and approached Paayal to join her for their lunch.
"Krishna, I didn't bring lunch today. My Dada insisted to have lunch in our canteen. I will go to the canteen to have lunch. You both carry on," Paayal said and stood up from her place.
"No no. You take rest. Ajay will go and buy your lunch from our canteen," Krishna giggled, looking teasingly at Ajay.
"It's okay, Krishna. I will manage," Paayal refused his gentle offer.
"No no, You take a rest. Our canteen is waiting for the arrival of Ajay's golden feet. Ajay is also waiting to do this noble mission," Krishna giggled.
Ajay glared at him.
But Paayal persisted in her decision, as she was always keen in doing her works herself from her childhood. She never leaves others to do her works. "No.I will go," Paayal protested.
Krishna, who was frustrated with her formalities by now, furrowed his eyebrows and said sternly, "I am saying, right? You are unwell. We are on the second floor and the canteen is on the ground floor. You should not strain your body by using stairs often. Let him go. Let's have our lunch in the classroom itself today. Won't you listen to me?"
His stern words always made Paayal's mouth zipped. She pouted, looking at him innocently and nodded her head in agreement.
"Good." Krishna smiled and added to Ajay, "Go and buy vegetable rice."
Ajay whispered, gritting his teeth, "If you are so caring, you can go to buy her lunch."
"You Fool! I can go. I can walk even thousands of miles for My Paayal. But, I want to spend time with her now." Krishna whispered.
"Oh..." Ajay rolled his eyes.
"Go, and Don't come soon." Krishna whispered, a mischievous grin appearing on his face.
"I should blame my fate," Ajay murmured with exasperation, pressing his fist against his forehead, and walked to the canteen.
"Ajay, Money...?" Paayal stopped him.
"He will have money. Don't worry." Krishna grinned at Ajay. Ajay glared at him with a smile on his lips. He was frustrated yet he was ready to do anything for his friends Krishna and Paayal.
Krishna too knew that Ajay will not perceive him wrong. He added playfully, "Why are you glaring at me? You made her cry in the morning, right? Go and buy her lunch with your money. It's your punishment."
"Going...!!" Ajay gritted his teeth and left for the canteen.
Krishna sat down near Paayal in Saanvi's place.
Paayal pouted, "Why are you doing this with Ajay? Poor him! He didn't make me cry deliberately. In fact, I was the one who cried unnecessarily. I know, I get emotional easily nowadays. Ajay made no mistakes."
"So shall I go and buy your lunch? Let Ajay be here with you." Krishna said playfully, pretending to get up, knowing very well that she will stop him.
As expected, Paayal held his hand and stopped him. "No no, you yourself be with me."
