Chapter 21
Ariel POV
The bright midmorning sun blinded me as I woke up with a throbbing migraine. My body was so comfortable, I stayed sprawled out on the bed for a minute before sitting up with my back against the head board.
"Elijah put some pain killers and water there for you," Kol startled me, pointing to my nightstand from the upholstered chair in the corner. I nodded my head in thanks and reached over to get it. The pills easily slid down my throat from all of the antidepressants I took for my anxiety disorder. Kol got up from the chair and walked over my bed. He sat on the edge, looking at me with sad eyes, "Ariel, Why?"
"I didn't want to feel the pain." I avoided eye contact.
"You still love him, don't you?"
For a minute, I stayed silent with my eyes on my lap. When I finally looked at Kol's so-brown-almost-black eyes, I nodded.
"Do you want to go out and get some breakfast?" He asked.
"Like, out-out? Out of the house out? Into public out?" I placed the glass of water on the wooden nightstand.
"Yeah, I thought you would like that."
"You're not worried about me trying to run away?"
"No, because I know you wouldn't. After all, if it hasn't happened yet, it's not going to happen anytime soon."
"Well, what if someone recognizes me?" I asked, hesitant about his offer, "Not because I don't want to go out, I do, but what if someone sees me and starts asking questions?"
"That is why I have these," Kol held up a pair of chunky sunglasses and non-permanent hair dye. I smiled and got out of bed, "You have clothes hanging in the bathroom."
"Thanks," I took the black hair dye and sunglasses before making my way to the bathroom.
Fifteen minutes later I emerged from the bathroom with a maroon skirt, white blouse, and a black elastic belt which had a chrome bow. I slipped on a pair of shiny black flats that matched my now jet black hair before darting out the room and downstairs. Kol was by the front door holding my fake leather jacket.
"Where did you find this?" I ran to him and pulled it on.
"It's a secret. Ready?" He asked me.
"Yeah," I smiled and walked out the door he was holding for me.
"Kol? Ariel?" Elijah stopped up, "What are you doing?"
"I'm taking Ariel out to grab some breakfast. We coloured her hair and she's going to wear sunglasses in a small diner outside of town. Plus, she's never been seen with me. We'll be careful. I'll look out for her, brother, I promise," Kol said.
Elijah sighed, "Alright, just get her back before dark, though. I don't want her out that late in light of recent events."
"Don't worry, Elijah. I'll be fine." I piped up before walking to the passenger seat of the car. I put the sunglasses on as Kol closed the door and made his way to the car.
"Ready?" he started the car.
"Yup!" I leaned over to turn the radio on.
After fifteen minutes of driving, Kol pulled into a small diner. We settled into a booth at the back. A server came over and took our order. I had recognized her from school, but, thankfully, she did not seem to recognize me. After she brought us back two waters, I ordered a large peanut butter chip pancake with a side of home fries and Kol, being a vampire and not needing to eat to sustain life, only ordered a plate of home fries.
