CHAPTER 13

Klaus POV

I went into the library, thinking that Elijah had needed me for something incredibly idiotic, like asking where a certain book about magic was. I did not expect to find a bawling Ariel on the couch, clawing at her head. She was letting many loud, spine piercing shrieks. I ran over to her and crouched down next to her, “Oh God. Ariel, what’s happening?”

“Nik, she has a migraine. We don’t know what’s causing it. Could it be something Mikael, or someone did?”  Rebekah informed me.

I bit my bottom lip. I felt sick. This was all my fault. If I hadn’t invited Caroline over, she would be fine. I sat on the couch and took Ariel into my arms. She turned into me. I kissed the top of her head, “I need Celeste! One of you, go get her! Now!”

Rebekah and Elijah both left the room, shutting the door behind them. Ariel’s crying was getting worse. I hugged her as tight as I could, fighting back the tears in my eyes, “Sh, Ariel. You’re going to be okay. I’m having Celeste come as soon as she can.”

Ariel’s howling subsided to a whimper with tears running down her face. She sat up on my lap, rested her head on my shoulder, and looked me in the eye. “Nik, I’m sorry. I love you.” She cried.

“No, no Ariel, this is not your fault. I’m sorry. I should not have run off like that. I love you so much. I couldn’t bear that you were gone. When I got you back, all I could think of was destroying my father.” I hugged her.

“But I shouldn’t have left. The only reason Mikael got me was because I was acting like some jealous hormonal teen girl obsessing over you.” She squeezed her eyes shut and clenched my shirt in pain.

“Well, if this was all because you were obsessing over me…” I managed to smirk at her to try to make her smile. It worked Ariel gave me a weak smile.  I pressed my forehead to hers, “I’m crazy about you Ariel Mercer. Whoever did this, I promise I will hunt them down and kill them.”

“Even if it’s your father? Or mother?” I could tell she had a small smile on her beautiful face.

“I’ve done it before,” I looked into her eyes, “Gosh, you are so beautiful.” I pressed my lips against hers. I felt a surge of energy shoot through me, as if I were high on a million drugs at once. I could feel Ariel kissing me back. I cupped the back of her head in my hands and stroked her hair. I could feel our bodies get closer. She pressed herself up against so hard, I’m surprised she hadn’t exploded.

“Well someone’s feeling better!” I could hear a snarky remark. Ariel pulled away from me and sat looking ashamed, but she took my hand and started to play with it. I looked up to see my brother and Celeste standing in front of me. “I brought you your witch, brother.”

“Thank you, Elijah,” I turned to Celeste, “Ariel is hurt. She has a terrible migraine and we can sense foul play with magic is a factor.”

“Let me take a look at her,” the witch, dressed in all white, strode over to Ariel.

“No. I won’t just let you ‘take a look’, you are going to help her!” I snarled.

                “Nik-” Ariel whispered.

“No. Celeste is trying to play mind games. She is going to help you. I promise on my and my siblings lives, that she is going to fix you.” I could feel Elijah glaring at me for the remark I had just made.

“And I will help her, Niklaus,” Celeste looked up from Ariel and to me, “Have her drink an herbal tea. I need her to sleep.”

“Rebekah!” I yelled, “Get the witch some sleeping herbs in a tea!”

Celeste glared at me. We both knew that was not what she wanted. I smirked, “I’m not going to allow you to be alone with her at this time. Once I see progress, I will let you be with her alone so you can work your magical witchy mojo on her.”

Rebekah came in with the tea, and gave it to Ariel to drink. After she fell asleep, we left her to be alone with Celeste. I paced impatiently outside of the library waiting for Celeste to finish. An excruciating hour later, she came out and beckoned me in. I sat on the couch next to a fast asleep Ariel. The witch sat on a chair across from me.

                “So what was wrong?”

“Niklaus,” she said in a soft voice.

“You fixed her, right?” I got agitated.

“Niklaus, Ariel. Ariel did have magic in her, but not in the way you think. She was born with it. Although there is no one in her bloodline that has magic in them, she somehow miraculously does. Unfortunately, I cannot fix her.”

“What do you mean you can’t fix her?” I shouted.

“Niklaus, it is not a disease. She is not normal. She has blood inside of her. I am unable to remove it. All I could sense is a werewolf gene, but it gets odd. She also has a witch gene. The magics were probably conflicting, fighting to see which would take over.”

For a few minutes I was silent, but then I spoke, “Thank you for your help, Celeste. I think you should be on your way though.” I watched as she led herself out. Rebekah and Elijah came into the room asking what the verdict was.

“Ariel has werewolf and witch in her,” I mustered out, “Celeste was not letting on, but I think there is more to it than just that.”
