Ariel POV
Eight am, my phone rang as I was driving to The Brew, “Hey Kayla! Let me guess, you have a hangover and you cannot meet me? Or you are with some guy?”
A muffled voice answered me, “Both”
“Okay. Well, I’m driving so I’m going to have to let ya go,” I hung up and tossed my phone on the passenger seat. Being seventeen is great, my parents are out of town, I have my license, and I get the whole house to myself. I think it is beautiful, the silence and serenity. I parked in my usual parking spot at the café and sat at the counter.
“Hey, Ariel. Usual? Hot chocolate, extra hot and extra, extra foam?” Ethan Meyers, a friend of mine who is a sophomore at a local community college, cane up to me.
“Please,” I grinned. I always order the same drink when it starts to get cold out. I have ever since I was a freshman at Mystic Falls High School and would come here after school to get my homework done, and now that I’m a senior I come on the weekends, before, and after school.
“Here you go,” He slid me my drink.
“Thanks” I took a sip and let the delicious taste linger in my mouth.
“Hello, Love” A vaguely familiar British accent came from behind me.
“Are you stalking me?” I turned to face Niklaus.
“I am just here to get a cup of tea. Do you accuse all of the guys who think you are very pretty of being a stalker?” He smiled.
“You think I’m pretty?”
“Gorgeous” I noticed his eyes were back to a human color of a dark brown.
“Thanks” I blushed. That happiness did not last long though, because when I felt a hand on my shoulder I looked up to find Blake.
“Ariel, I missed you last night. Where were you?” he asked, trying to sound like a gentleman.
“Oh, I was there. I couldn’t find you after I saw some girl go up to your room with you, not so long after, following,” I sassed.
“Oh, Emma? That’s my cousin. I was telling her to get out of there because I was hoping that – that you would come and see me. To you know get some peace and quiet,” his face turned bright red.
“Unbelievable! You thought that we were going to hook up? You actually thought that because a girl who loves to read, came to your party that she was going to try to have sex with you?” I laughed.
“Well, when you put it that way, it sounds kind of duchy,” He moved out of my way as I stood up.
“It is!” I retorted.
Blake started to stroke my hair, “Come on babe. I know you want it,”
“Please, Blake. Stop!” I shoved him, but he was like a piece of gum in my hair, just would get off. He started groping me caressing me. “Blake, please!”
“Hey! Get off of her!” Niklaus pulled him away and punched real hard. I took that as my chance to escape, so I darted outside, a worried looking Niklaus running after me.
“Hey, are you okay?” He looked me in the eye.
“Um, besides the fact that I was going to be used as some easy target practice, yeah, I’m fine!” I panted, “Thanks for peeling him off of me,”
“No problem, I don’t think he will bother you again,” Niklaus smiled.
“What’s that mean?” I tiled my head.
“Oh, someone may have threatened to rip his heart out with bear hands it he tried to get in your pants,” He looked up at the sky.
“Well, that was, um, a very flattering gesture,” I giggled.
“Oh! I meant to ask you, do you have any Vervain charms on your jewelry?” He got all serious.
“Again with the Vervain? What is that anyways?” I sighed.
“It’s just, you know, an herb that deflects vampire compulsion,” He lowered his voice.
I rolled my eyes, “Are you like a huge vampire nerd, or something?”
“Or something,”
“So that is you turn off?”
“Some would say,”
“Okay, so I’ve got to get home, but I hope I can see you again,” I give him a friendly hug before I got into my car. Five minutes after that, I realized that I forgot my bag and phone at The Brew, so I turned around. When I got there, Niklaus was standing at the door with my stuff.
“So, what do you think about coming home with me? I know you know my little sister, Rebekah Mikaelson.” He offered.
“Oh yeah, Rebekah is great, but you know what, I can’t. I really need to get home,” I took my belongings from him.
“I was afraid you were going to say that,” he grinned, and put a cloth over my mouth. I started feeling light headed and tired. I kept my eyes open for as long as I could before…
