Chapter 9
Klaus POV
“Caroline! Caroline, stop!” I yelled. I finally understood why she came here, to be with me. I knew she was still in love with me, but I moved on. I was falling in love with Ariel. Caroline did not stop. She ran her hands under my shirt. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw a figure hovering behind the door. A beautiful blonde wave of hair fell in front of their face. Ariel. I tried to push Caroline off, but I was too late, she had already let the door, slamming the handle.
“What’s that?” Caroline smirked.
“Caroline, I think you should go home. I…I don’t feel the same way anymore,” I tell her in the calmest voice I could, “Excuse me.” I pushed past her and ran down the hall after Ariel. As I turned a sharp left, I could just see a blur of light blonde before the front door slammed. I fumbled with the door and swung it closed behind me, running down the steps and heading down the street after Ariel.
“Ariel! Ariel, wait!” I screamed after her, “It’s not what you think!”
She turned, about three yards away from me. Tears stained her face, “Shut up! Just, shut up, Niklaus Mikaelson! I don’t want to listen to your crap!”
“Ariel, please,” I begged her.
“No! I thought…I thought that you actually loved me! But, No! I was too caught up in fantasy to see that no one can fall in love in three days! Especially you!”
“Ariel, I do! I do love you!”
“I said I don’t want to hear it!” the tears rolled down her face faster, “I don’t care! Please, just do me a favor and leave me alone! Go back inside to Caroline,”
I only stood there, not moving a muscle. She let out a long sigh.
“Niklaus, if you really love me, you will go back into the house and not come after me!” She turned and ran. As much as I wanted to use my speed and strength to go after her, I truly did love her. I wanted her to know that. So I went back into the house.
I took out my cell phone and angrily punched in Elijah’s number. Once he picked up, before he could speak, I yelled into the phone, “Elijah! Ariel’s gone! She ran away! I need you to come here and help!”
He was out exploring New Orleans with Rebekah, “Niklaus, what do you expect? You locked her up like a prisoner.”
“No Elijah. She saw me and Caroline kissing. I tried to explain to her that it was not what it looked like, but she ran off and told me that if I loved her I would not go after her,” I panicked.
There was silence on the other end for a moment, “I’ll be there in a few minutes,”
“Thank you Elijah!” I hung up the phone.
I waited ten minutes, then there was a ring at the door. Elijah walked in with Rebekah and sat down in the living room with me.
“Where’s Caroline?” Rebekah asked.
“She just left,” I replied, “I told her that it would be a good idea if she went back to Mystic Falls.”
“Niklaus, where was Ariel headed when she took off?” Elijah was staring at the fire place that was recently lit.
“Um, the way we go to get to Celeste’s, but she doesn’t know where that is. Look, I don’t care where she is, I just want to find her. I love her. She is not afraid to stand up to me. She makes me feel good inside. Okay? I need her!” I filled with rage.
“Nik! We’ll find her! Just calm down!” Rebekah reprimanded.
I sat on the couch and buried my face into my hands. A knock at the door surprised us. Elijah got the door and led a petite dark brown haired young woman.
“Sophie Devereaux, what brings you here?” I looked up.
“That Ariel girl. The one you brought here,” she growled, “She’s with Celeste. I thought you said you were going to keep her away from the coven!”
“I did, I never said she wouldn’t find it herself.” I snapped.
“Well, you need to come get her because she would not come with me,” she started to walk out the door, so my siblings and I followed. We walked a few blocks to an old cemetery where the coven of witches stayed. Sophie brought me into Celeste’s normal work space, but no Ariel. Celeste sat there in silece.
“I thought you told me that Ariel was here!” I shouted, it seemed to shake the ground.
“She was. She must’ve gone somewhere else,” Sophie said through gritted teeth, “Celeste! Where did the teen go?”
“I can’t say. I gave my word to her that I would not tell about her visit or where she’s headed,” Celeste stated calmly.
“You witches are really getting on my nerves. I asked you to help keep track of her, and what do you do? Instead of returning her to me, you let her run off!” I stormed out of the cemetery with my super vampire speed.
Rebekah went after me, “Nik! Nik, don’t worry, we’ll find her, okay?”
“Rebekah, I screwed up. I let her think the she was nothing, but I love her so much,”
“I know. Just go home and get some rest. I’ll stay out tonight and look for her.”
“Okay, thank you Rebekah,” I went back to the house and laid on the couch. I must have fallen asleep, because the next thing I knew was that I was waking up to Rebekah watching over me.
“Hey, Nik,” she soothed me, “Elijah went out sometime early this morning to look for Ariel. I’m sorry. I couldn’t find her.”
I closed my eyes again, but this time I did not fall back asleep, I let a single tear drop from my eyes, “This is all my fault,”
