Autumn's P.O.V.

A crack of lightning lit the dark room as I felt the thunder rattle the house. I had this eerie pain in my chest that wouldn't let me sleep. I slipped on my robe as I headed to the kitchen to make some tea.

I was surprised to see the lights were on in the kitchen.

Owen gave me a tired smile as he saw me enter the kitchen.

"Couldn't sleep either?" he asked as he poured me some tea in a mug.

"Nope," I answered as I took a seat on a stool at the breakfast bar. "Why are you up?"

He frowned as he set down his cup. "I've been thinking a lot, and I think you should leave."

"What are you talking about?"

"It's not right for me to do this. I'm holding you hostage. This guilt is eating me alive."

"But you're doing it for a good reason. You need the money Owen," I said placing my hand over his.

"Just the thought of the money being blood money. You might die Autumn-I can't do it."

"You're daughter might die Owen. You need this. As long as my baby makes it it's okay."

Before he could say anything else a car's tires could be heard on the gravel outside.

"Are we expecting someone?" I asked as fear ran through me.

He got up and peeped through the windows.

"Shit," he muttered under his breath.

"Who is it?" I asked.

"It's Jake."

"Jake? No, that can't be," I rambled in panic.

"Autumn," he gripped my shoulders, "go hide in the closet. I'll tell him you left."

"No," I argued.

"Go." he commanded not going to take no for an answer again.

I nodded with tears in my eyes.

I walked to my room quickly, I hid my suitcase under the bed and squeezed into the closet hiding behind a shoe rack.

My heart raced as I heard pounding at the door followed by the door opening.

"Owen?"

Cold sweat ran down my back as I heard Jake's voice.

"Where is she?!" he roared.

"She left. I let her go."

"You're lying."

"See for yourself Jake."

I heard footsteps getting closer to my room. The door creaked open and the lights switched on. I held my breath praying as he opened the closet. I thanked God as he only opened one side noting how empty it was.

"Why is her car still here Owen?" he asked.

"She decided to fly," he responded.

"How can you protect her Owen?! I thought you were my friend? I've known you since we were kids!" I could hear the betrayal that laced his voice.

"I don't know what you're talking about Jake."

"Don't play dumb with me!"

Something crashed in the living room.

I couldn't just sit here anymore.

I quietly got up and peeped through the door crack.

I could see Jake holding Owen by the neck as Owen laid on the floor.
