Jake's POV
I ran my hands through my hair over and over again waiting to be allowed to see Autumn. After Elizabeth had to connect her to IV fluids I was kept waiting. Hearing clicking of heels I looked up. It was Melanie and Dimitri.
"Jake," she hugged me tightly, "we came as soon as you called. How is she?"
"She just has a broken ankle and a few bruises, but I feel like there's something else. Elizabeth refused to tell me. She said she had to tell Autumn first. Whatever it was sent her into shock. They had to put her on IV fluids."
Elizabeth walked in with a serious expression.
"Melanie, I'm glad you're here. Autumn wants to speak with you."
We looked at each other shocked.
"Doesn't she want to see Jake first?"
Elizabeth shook her head, "I'm afraid not."
Melanie looked at me unsure of what to do.
"Go," I gave her a small smile even though it pained me that she didn't want to see me.
Autumn's POV
I sat up after I slowly recovered from my shock. I stared at the white ceiling waiting for Melanie to arrive. I needed to talk to her first. The door opened. I looked up seeing Melanie close the door behind her.
"Hey, how are you feeling?"
I ignored her question asking her instead the question that had been burning inside of my for hours.
"Did you know?" My voice was slightly louder than a whisper. I almost didn't even recognize it. It was like it was somebody else's.
"What are you talking about?" She asked.
"Did you know Jake was getting married to someone else?"
"I--I," she paused for a moment before responding. "I did." She looked at me with guilty eyes that were glossy with moisture.
I shook my head in disbelief feeling betrayed even more from the people I loved. I swallowed down the huge lump that had formed in my throat.
"How could you? You of all people. I thought you were my best friend?"
"I am your best friend Autumn," she came to my side taking my hands in hers. I pulled them away from hers.
"No you're not. Best friends don't keep things hidden from each other! Do you know how I felt when I found out he's been engaged to this woman for the past 9 months! We could have just ended this charade 9 months ago at your wedding!"
"What?" Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"We weren't really going out at your wedding. We just said that so you could be happy, but he wanted to really give us a shot, so of course I said yes being the hopeless romantic I am that always dreams of finding the one."
"You lied to me as well."
"We both did, so I guess we're even now." I said through narrowed eyes. "I don't know if we can still be friends Melanie. I don't know if I can forgive this betrayal from you or him, so I hope you can do at least one thing for me if you're truly my friend."
She looked at me with tears running down her cheek.
"Don't tell Jake what we talked about. I want to talk to him about it."
She nodded before walking away. She stopped at the door turning around, "I hope one day you'll be able to forgive me. I'll always be there with open arms because I'm truly sorry."
