She walked into the hospital, cheerful for the first time in a while. She'd spent the entire day after their date birthing puppies and playing with them. Finn had taught her about the importance of motherly care and made her eat three meals.

"Now that McDreamy's a vegetable, you're happy?" Cristina asked, catching up with her while George met them too.
"He's brain dead?" Meredith asked, worryingly.
"No. Minimal brain function though." She shrugged.
"See, how can you do that?" George asked. "Stone-cold."
"I can't help it if you're an emotional being 007." She said.
"He is okay though right?" Meredith asked.
"I don't think he will be okay. Poor Addison." George said.

She broke away from the two of them and walked up to his room. It was night time and she changed into her scrubs before walking into his room. His brain function was going down and he was getting colder by the second.

"They think you're a vegetable." She said to him after shutting the door. "They think you're a vegetable, Doctor Shepherd. Prove them wrong, please."

She walked closer to him and felt his hand, cold and icy when she rested her hand on it. She thought he moved but he hadn't. His brain activity spiked and she grabbed socks from the cabinet and lifted the blanket near his feet, which were even colder than his hands.

Tears welled in her eyes as she rolled the socks up his calves and touched his skin. She remembered how warm he had made her when they were together in the trailer. How his arms around her had trapped all the heat between their bodies and how he had whispered the deepest secrets into her ears with his warm breath.

She pulled the blanket down and walked to him, watching his body temperature rise very slowly. She held his hand and rubbed it up until his shoulders, feeling the muscles in his arms. When she was finished, his skin was normal and he no longer had such a blue undertone. She sighed and lowered the sides of the bed before sitting on the edge of it.

"Please, don't be a vegetable." She said softly. "For me."

He willed himself to live, for hours after she had come and gone, he had tried to wake up, to look at her, and let her know that he wasn't a vegetable. He felt warmer now, but the hospital was always cold, and he didn't know when she would be back to help him get warm again.

One week later

"Finn?" She asked as she walked up to his apartment.
"Hey!" He called, "come up, I have a surprise."
"Alright!" She smiled, hearing his voice.

When she was at the last step, he met her and held her shoulders, hiding his apartment. She looked into his eyes and laughed as he bent to kiss her. She held his sweater, gripping it slightly before he pulled back.

"What delicious food have you made today?" She asked.
"No food, you're imagining everything." He joked.
"Am I?" She nodded, cheeky grin spreading over her lips.

He reached up around the wall and shut the light off, but the apartment didn't turn a pitch black like she had said. He covered her eyes and helped her up the remaining stairs before leaning into her ear.

"Happy Birthday." He whispered, making her smile.
"What is all this?" She asked as he took his hands off her.
"Dinner, and a day for you. Because you had a long week."
"Finn..." She started and she felt her cheeks reddening.
"Something wrong?" He asked innocently.

She turned away from the candle lit dinner table and the into his chest. No one had ever done anything so kind for her. But Finn was there and he was treating her right, and not lying about his wife.
