"Morning." He breathed weakly as she woke up, the sunlight hitting her eyes. She was mumbling something and she instantly sat up, looking at him. His eyes were open, and he had spoken.
"You're awake." She smiled, making him nod.
"Cold." He said quietly and she got out of the bed before grabbing an extra blanket from the closet. She pulled it over him and helped him sip water before he nodded.
The nurses opened the door and she watched in the corner as they did tests and bloodwork, and before the day was over, they had signed his release papers.
"I can't wait to go home." He smiled as he walked slowly. He had his arm around her shoulder and she was carrying his bag. She drove him home and helped him get up the steps and into his house before she let him settle on the couch. He had put on a sweater and she made him mac and cheese before sitting beside him.
"You know..." She stared, feeding him a bite, "This house is so gorgeous and huge. You could get a dog and a cat and fish."
"You know..." He trailed, "I'm not a baby. I can eat my own food."
"Right." She blushed, handing him the bowl.
"Thank you." He smiled as he ate.
"Well, I should go." She sighed, standing up.
"No..." He shook his head, "Don't go... please."
"Okay." She smiled, sitting back down. After they finished their food and played a game if scrabble before they headed into his room. She helped him get into the bed and pulled his covers up before he held her hand.
"Lay beside me again." He said softly. She nodded and came around the corner before laying down. She sighed in pleasure as she laid down.
"Even my bed isn't this comfortable." She moaned as she stretched out on the bed. He laughed and nodded as he turned to her and her eyes were caught in his. She bit her lip and they both started to laugh again. Eventually, their lips were inches apart and they stopped laughing. She could feel the remains of his breath against her face, and their eyes closed as she leaned in. He leaned forward and their breathing was laboring.
"You have a boyfriend." He breathed, pulling back. She nodded frantically and turned away from him, the heart left her to tell him that they'd broken up.
"Mer..." He breathed, looking at her back. She shook her head and he hesitated to reach out to her.
She turned around after an hour, and he had his hand outstretched to her, but had never touched her. She touched his fingers and felt a gentle jolt of electricity in her. He shifted and turned away but she leaned closer to him. She rested her head against his back and wrapped her arms around his chest. She held him tight until she could fall asleep and by the end of the night, she was spooning him on his bed.
When he woke up, she wasn't in bed, but instead it was made on her side and he got out of bed before walking through his house. He felt empty without her and he knew she had a few days off.
He went to the shelter and bought a cat, bringing it back home and giving it some fish that he had caught. He couldn't give a dog the attention it needed because he was too busy. But a cat, a cat could stay alone for a long time, and eat the fish he caught.
It was a week later and he was watching a show on his couch, his cat curled on his chest as it started to pour. He pet his cat and it purred at his touch. He was wearing a sweater and loose pajama pants before he heard a knock at the door. He got up and answered it to see her, drenched at his doorstep.
"We broke up." She said, making him confused.
"What?" He asked softly, realizing what she had just said.
"Finn and I..." She started, hesitating to find the words.
