Verse of the Day
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
[Colossians 4:6 NIV]Accepting Jesus Christ
One of the reasons someone could deny God is because they're uncomfortable with the idea of someone watching over their every move and judging them. Some also say that being a Christian is too restricting and that basically "everything" is a sin. Let me tell you, if you're living in sin, and you have sin surrounding you, of course it would seem like a lot of the decisions that you make are a sin. You're too used to sinning. If you want to change your ways and stop living in sin, then you have to repent of the sins you've committed. Accept Jesus Christ as your savior. Believe and trust in Him. It doesn't matter if you're a felon, a murderer, or even the worst person in the world. God loves every single one of us unconditionally.
Just to make it clear, you don't get into heaven because of the works you've done, but by accepting Jesus as your savior and putting your faith in Him. That is the only way. That springs the question: why should I do good works if all I have to do is accept Jesus? There are many reasons why you should. Here are two:
1. "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." [James 1:22 NIV] God commands us to do good works not to get into heaven, but to share God's love with others. The Ten Commandments says to love God first, and love thy neighbor as thyself. Through service, we can help others feel loved and show them that there are people that care. If you find it hard to love others, pray and ask God to help you see people in the way He see's them.
2. It makes us feel good, too. Does it not feel great to see the smiles on people's faces when they receive a gift? It does for me! You can volunteer at a local church, soup kitchen, or basically anywhere. Help out your neighbors.Your walk with Jesus doesn't end there. You have to continue to grow your relationship with Him. In the next chapter, I will talk about who Jesus is, what He did, and how to grow your relationship with God. If needed, I'll also make a chapter about the Holy Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.)
Wisdom
"My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; Neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth."
[Proverbs 3:11-12 KJV]This verse speaks about accepting correction. "Despise not the chastening of the LORD." When the Lord corrects something you did wrong, don't ignore it. Accept the correction and fix your ways. If your child has done something wrong, you wouldn't just let it go without correcting and disciplining them for it, right? That's what God is doing. We are children of God; He is our Father. He corrects us because He loves and wants the best for us. What kind of father would He be if He just let us do our thing? For example, let's say that you commit idolatry, the act of prioritizing something before God. If God didn't convict you for this sin, you would never know that it's wrong. You would keep doing it over and over again, until ultimately you forget all about God; you've put too many things over Him.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do."
[James 1:5-8 NIV]Pray and ask God for wisdom. But when doing this, don't doubt Him and think that He won't do it. You also can read the Bible consistently to gain wisdom. Books like Proverbs, James, Job, Psalm, Ecclesiasticus, and Song of Solomon (Song of Songs) are great for gaining wisdom and learning. Reading the Bible also grows your relationship with God. When you read the Bible, your reading what God has to say and how He's worked in and through people.
Furthermore, I recommend doing devotionals. The Bible app is a great app for this. It has devotionals that cover almost everything that you could need help with. In addition, the Bible app allows you to highlight, bookmark, and take notes on verses, join your community's church, add friends, and more! Here's the link for the app:
