Foundation
""Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."" [Matthew 7:24-27 NIV]
Jesus says that if you listen to what He says and put it into practice, you will be wise. What does He mean by this? The Bible says that putting Jesus' teachings into practice will help you have a firm foundation in Christ. The rock symbolizes Jesus and His teachings. Just like a rock, it never crumbles; it is strong and resilient. Your foundation, the rock, will never waver under harsh storms.
It's very important to have your foundation in Christ. When you do, you won't be blown away by the oncoming storms and hurdles in life. To build your house upon the rock means to build your life upon God's Word. Listen to and learn from his teachings. Apply it to your life by continually studying the Bible and praying for insight. It's okay to mess up— everyone is a sinner. You will still sin and have temptations to sin. When you sin, do not be afraid to go back to God and repent. God loves you so much and isn't mad. He knows we aren't perfect.
