"Chicago police department are looking into this case." Indigo explained to Kai."Oh, Indi. How can I help?" Kai asked as he brought over some water for Indigo.
"I don't know what to do. Why my Sage? I'm too poor to afford ransom."
Their moment of silence was quickly broken when Indigo's phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hello, it's Ethan with the CPD. We were calling to let you know that the surveillance cameras outside the school caught the kidnapper's car on tape."
"Really? So, you know where my baby is?" Indigo let out a relieved sigh.
"No ma'am, about that, we ran the plates, and the car belongs to a deceased man. Either the kidnapper stole the car, or they used a fake ID to rent it."
"No!" Indigo was so frustrated she dropped the call.
She tried pulling out the iv that was hooked to her arm when Kai placed his hand over hers. She stopped and looked up at him and he gave her a warm smile before wrapping his arms around her. She buried her face in his chest and began crying and Kai stroked her hair. He held her in his arms, in silence, letting her cry and get all her pain out. She had cried some much that she fell asleep, Kai softly placed her head on the pillow and grabbed a dampened paper towel to wipe the tear stains from her puffy eyes.
In his eyes, she didn't deserve most of the pain that she's been through. He'd wished to take it all away, and he was going to do just that. Once they find Sage, he was not taking no for an answer, he was going to take them to London with him. His thoughts were interrupted by the nurse. She was a tall, dark skinned lady, in her hand was a box of calming tablets, a box of sleeping pills and a glass of water. Kai moved aside so the nurse could access his limp best friend. She looked so peaceful. As the nurse was about to wake Indigo up, Kai placed a hand on her shoulder, and she turned around to face him.
"Please don't wake her up, she just fell asleep. Could you give her at least another thirty minutes?" He whispered politely.
The nurse nodded and left the medication on the bedside table and left the room. Kai paced back and forth between the bed and the door. All he could think of was how much pain Indigo was going through. She had no family nearby, her adoptive parents lived all the way in Florida and Indigo barely spoke to them. The only family she had right now was him. He quickly took out his phone and dialled his office.
"Hello, Marty?" He whispered into the receiver.
"Yes Mr. Princeton. All set for your flight tomorrow I presume?"
"Marty, there's been a change of plans, I will need you to step in for me. All my scheduled meetings will be held online until further notice. I need you to keep an eye on the employees, don't need them stepping out of line when I'm not there. If there's meetings that require a staff member, send the manager in my place. I shall brief him beforehand." He said. "Oh, and one more thing, cancel my flight please."
"I beg your pardon sir. Has something gone wrong?"
"I'll explain when I get there. Oh and also get someone to clean out Sarah's old office, I have a potential intern."
"Is there anything else sir?"
"No Marty, that will be all."
Just as he hung up he saw, out the corner of his eye, Indigo had woken up. He rushed over to the bed to give her the water that the nurse had left. He placed his hand on her knee and thought to himself, she is so precious. I hope Sage is okay.
