Survival

Chris POV

I feel like I've been sitting here for hours, Scott rang Ma and she is on her way here. We've been sat in silence ever since, I can't even look at him. I look up and see a doctor walking towards us, he looks right at me and I know he's looking for me.
"Mr Evans?"
"Yes. Is she okay?"
"Come with me"
We walk to a more private room, Scott following behind, we take a seat and closes the door, that's when I know this isn't good news.
"Mr Evans..."
"Please call me Chris"

"Right.....chris, Miss Matthews she is out of surgery, she has a broken leg, it broke in 4 places, we have fixed this with metal plates and screws and it should heal. She has a very bad head injury, her brain is swollen right now and we need to give it time to recover before we can get in there and stop any bleeding. She also had some other internal bleeding, we have been able to fix the cause and now she is recovering"
"When will she wake up?"
"The thing is Chris, her injuries are extremely severe and we just don't know when or if she will wake up"
"What?" I shake my head "no. No she has to wake up. She has too"

"I'm sorry Mr Evans but we won't know anymore until she makes it through the next 24 hours. We have to take it day by day"
He places a hand on my shoulder as he walks out of the room and I bury my head into my hands.
"Chris...." I hear Scott say, I look over and see him barley holding on. I can't be mad at him anymore, he is hurting just as much as I am. I walk over and wrap my arms around him as we cry together.

A few hours later

We are allowed into the recovery room to see Dani, she is pretty banged up and we've been sat here for a while now just watching her. We know my Ma is nearly here and we have to tell her about Dani and I don't know how she is going to take it. It broken her when we lost Gracie, if we lose Dani too I don't know what she will do. Those girls have always been family and my Ma has always treated them like daughters.

We hear the door open and I see my Ma walk in, she stops once her eyes land on Dani. I walk over and wrap her in my arms as she cries.
"Oh Chris what happened?"
I explain how the accident happened and what the doctor has said, my mum is distraught. We take a seat next to Dani's bed and just wait. We don't know what else to do, I have Dani's hand in mine and I just keep running my thumb over her knuckles, it's how I've always calmed her and right now I feel like I'm doing this to calm myself.

Mum and Scott go and grab us some food and coffees and I sit down on the edge of her bed, her hand still in mine.
"Dani. I don't know if you can hear me but you have to wake up. You have to survive okay, I love you and I know you don't feel that way about me but I don't care. I love you more then anything in this world and I will go crazy if you don't wake up and you make me do this without you. So please.....please wake up. Please Dani. Wake up"
