Dani POV

1 year later

"Hi beautiful girl, did you enjoy your nap?" I say sweetly to my precious little daughter. She is now 3 months old and she is more beautiful now then ever. Her name is Hazel Grace Evans and she is honestly the spitting image of Grace when she was born. It's the first thing I noticed when I held her, her birth was dramatic and I ended up having to have a c section. Which was not something I wanted but I agreed with the doctors that whatever was best for my baby was what was needed. But thankfully she arrived safely and I was well taken care of.

I'm still slightly sore, but I'm going so much better now then I was when I first came out of hospital. Chris has been by my side the whole way, he stepped back from acting and has been helping me and I've loved it but today he had to go for a meeting, so I told him I would meet him for coffee. Hazel is already to go and I've managed to make my self look half decent, I load the car and head off to our favourite cafe here in Boston.

As I pull up, I park and grab my baby sling, I don't see the point in getting the stroller out when I'm only going to the cafe. As I strap Hazel in I hear someone shout my name. I turn and see a face I haven't seen since Gracie's funeral.
"Hi Dani"
"What.....what do you want?"
My dad stands there not really knowing what to say, staring down at my daughter.
"Is she yours?"
"Yes. What do you want?"

"Nothing I just I saw you and.....I'm sorry"
I look around and realise I don't see my mothers face or hear her screeching voice.
"She isn't here"
"Oh"
"She died Dani, 2 months ago"
I don't know why but I feel my heart skip from that news.
"How?"
"Cancer. It was late when we found out and there was nothing they could do"
I nod "I'm sorry for your loss"

He nods and gives me a sad smile "she's beautiful"
"Thank you"
"I'll leave you to it" I nod and go to walk towards the cafe but before I do I hear him talk again "I just want to say......I know it's too late and this doesn't mean much to you but I really did love you girls with all of my heart and I'm just sorry I let her.......im sorry I wasn't strong enough. I'm just........I'm just sorry"
I nod and turn towards the cafe, it didn't matter what he said. He was just as bad as her and no matter how many sorrys he throws at me it won't ever make up for it.

I look over and see Chris sat with his laptop, my favourite drink sat on the table and I smile "hey beautiful"
"Hey baby" I say as he gets up and kisses me softly before kissing hazels head.
"How's she been?"
"An angel as always"
He smiles "how was your meeting?"
"Good. Really good. Things are going well"
"Good I'm glad"
He looks up at me and I see the worry on his face "are you okay?"
"Yeah. I......I erm.....I just bumped into my dad"

"Did he...."
"No. He told me my mother she died 2 months ago. Cancer"
"Oh wow! I....i don't know what to say"
"No me either. He also said how sorry he was and he wished things could be different"
Chris sighs "they always do when they realise what they miss out on" he points at Hazel and I nod.
"Anyway......you said you wanted to talk to me about something"
"Oh yeah."
We continue to talk, I hand Hazel to Chris and he instantly holds her close. He is such an incredible father and he helps me become a better mother everyday.
