Opposites attract. Maggie knew from the very beginning how she and Damian lived in two different worlds. She was a commoner and he was a celebrity, after all.
She always wondered if there would ever be a possibility for their worlds to collide. However, no matter how much she tried to look at the brighter side of things, her subconscious had never failed to tell her that their ways of living would come between them every single time. Denying this reality has long been proven to be futile yet a larger part of her head had never truly ceased to give up on the thought of the potentials of their 'togetherness.'
What if, what if, she used to think.
Maggie had never really been a risk-taker, but the fleeting notion that a relationship between them could be worth a try had crossed her mind time and again. And she would ask her self all the time if there could ever be something to look forward to if she gave in and allowed Damian to have a hold of her heart.
She had been broken once, and the thought of having her heart shattered into millions of pieces for the second time left a bitter taste in her mouth. To be reminded of her past repeatedly had caused her to hold back again and again. And in more ways than one had she hesitated on surrendering the entirety of her heart to Damian.
But Damian tried so hard to reach out to her, and she could not just be a coward forever and hesitate from reaching back to him. When he said he would take care of her, he did. In fact, he even went beyond her expectations, and that was more than enough to make herself open up to him entirely. However, there were those things that kept her stalling endlessly. And it always came down to her being plump and plain and him being a celebrity and almost god-like.
A couple of months had passed and Damian had never once disappointed Maggie. As much as possible, he would pick her up from work even if he only had a few hours of sleep in between his shoots. Aside from that, he had not ceased from sending her meals and snacks at work. It kept her co-workers wondering where all the food was coming from. And she just had to laugh it off and said she had subscribed for daily meal supply from an unknown restaurant.
Maggie could not help but chuckle at the dumbfounded expressions on Odette and Helga's faces. Their faces were definitely sights to see on her shifts.
As usual, Damian was waiting in his car that was parked near the hospital. When Maggie got in, she noticed the dark hue circling his eyes, a sign of fatigue and lack of sleep. There was also hollowness on his cheeks, which could have meant that he lost a bit of weight. For a moment, she felt guilty about him wasting his time on driving and picking her up from work almost every day.
"You don't have to drive me to work or bring me home every single time, you know?" Maggie started, looking closely at the tired-looking Damian.
"I know." He replied.
"Then why do you keep on doing this even though you also have a busy schedule?" She asked before looking straight ahead when he started driving.
"Because I want to."
"You can't keep on doing this. Your body also needs rest, Damian."
