"Slaughter, a swear to God. Miss Rema fawud and seh we fih wait until yuh deh a foot." Marvin informed me, and every men looks in my direction agreeing."Deh ooman yah nuh remember which God shi praise enuh." I hissed, then points at the trucks. "Eh nuh too late, wash out the trucks before yuh send dem off."
"Ah boss." They responded, happy to make the move.
Cyaw do all the work then affi guh put everything back and do another day. Mih nuh wicked suh and mih have other business a duh.
Especially with mih woman and pickney mih lef a mih yaad.
I moved away to get inside where I will be able to make a phone call away from the noise.
Ringing up mommy, she answered last minute.
"Dávonte, I've been calling you." She spoke with the hint of accent in her voice.
Due to her years of traveling back and forth in London to Jamaica, even staying there in her childhood had left a permanent mark. The accent was a little deep.
Right now mih wish shi guh back and stay.
"I've been on a business call, ma." I replied, getting seated. "I realized you came here this morning and stopped the workers from doing their job..."
"But over fifty pigs, Dávonte?" She gasped with disbelief.
How she know dat.
Deh damn lady yah mon.
"Ma, I've authorized it and you know how awful the truck will smell as it's on the road at this time. You've caused a delay but what I want to know is what or who sent you here. Shouldn't you be in bed reading your bible?"
She's quiet and thinking.
Si deh rawse claat ooman yah a big ole Christian but a get tempted by the devil. Even more than mih, a sinna.
"Ma?" I called, with a smile on my face.
Ketch yuh.
"I'm only looking out for you." She sighed and I scoffed audibly. "I'm sorry son, but since that one time you almost got robbed, I'm worried."
"Ma, it's secured and it's you stopping everything that make an alarm because we work on a time management. You know this, so please don't cause this again."
This woman left her community to get this far, maneuvering her little vehicle between the trucks and standing up to big business men.
Since she wants to act like a boss and get shamed when the real one arrives, I'll let her enjoy this embarrassment without clearing anything up.
My mother is more than a tic in my flesh, we share the same blood type but not the same mentality.
This is what ignoring my mother caused me.
All fih run backa ooman.
A good woman mih soon lose.
Naw mek dat gwaan still.
"Christmas is right around the corner and this is the time we make all the money. We can't have anymore delays and there will be, you know there's already traffic on Reading, long hill?" I asks and she's still quiet. "The smell of these hog trucks won't be a breath of fresh air to anyone. Especially on this big Monday morning."
"I'm sorry, Dávonte. I wasn't thinking of it that way." She went on with excuses.
She knows this and yet she does it. It's only the devil and I'll have her regretting her actions.
