𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳 4

𝙴𝚟𝚎𝚕𝚢𝚗

The drive to her childhood best friend's house had an uneasy feeling. Evelyn was nervous. But why? This is Mike she's talking about. She couldn't help but think he was mad at her. She left him, with no warning. Should wouldn't blame him if he was.

 The car was silent, Evelyn not wanting to talk about what had happened, and Ness not wanting to pressure her into talking if she wasn't ready or if she simply just didn't want to talk. He knew she tends to shut people out, and he respected it. He knew she would tell him once she was in the right headspace to. 

The two people in the car were now a block away from Mike's house. To say Evelyn was scared was an understatement. She wasn't scared of him, just how he would feel and act. Mike would never hurt her, and she knew that. 

They pulled up to the home. Mike was already sitting on the steps, waiting for her. Evelyn's heart swelled at the thought. Ness looks over at her with a sad smile, he was going to miss his friend. 

"You ready E?". Evelyn looked over to him and nodded her head at him. She was ready. She had to be, it has been far to long. Ness brought her hand to his lips and gave a small peck. He got out of the car and made his way to Mike. Evelyn need a couple deep breathes before she opened her door. 

Her feet touching the familiar road sends a shiver down her back. She looks over to her two male friends and sees them in conversation. Mike looks behind the man in front of him, making eye contact with the girl for the first time in years. Evelyn gives him a small smile before dropping her head to get her duffle bag. 

When she has her bag in her hand, she raises her head to see Ness coming back to her. She smiles as he stops in front of her. "Call me if you need anything. I mean it E, anything. Mike seems like a good guy, I trust him to take care of you." Evelyn smiles with a shake of her head, like I need somebody to take care of me. I need somebody to treat me like a human, and that's what Mike has always done.

Ness puts both of his hand on his friend shoulders to hold her in place. "Stay safe. I'll be waiting by the phone so you can call 20 times a day and tell me how much you miss me." Ness says with a chuckle and begins to pull her into a hug. "I'll miss you E."

Evelyn hugs him with so much love. He was there for her through the tough times. He was such a good friend to her, and she didn't know what she did to deserve it. Evelyn's mom was wrong. She was worthy of love. Somebody did love her. Her friendship with Ness has proved that.

The girl gives her friend a smile and starts to make her way to the boy she missed more than anything. The person she thought about as soon as she woke up and right before she went to sleep. Ness waited until Evelyn was on the other side of the car to pull away. 

𝙼𝚒𝚔𝚎

"Hey, I'm Ness. Evelyn has been staying with me for about a year. She had a really rough day, I don't think she would like to talk. Just be cautious and be patient. I know you probably know her better than I do, but I care about her. I want her to be safe. Promise me, promise she is safe with you."

Mike couldn't believe the words coming out of this guys mouth. Obviously she is safe with him, Mike wouldn't do anything to hurt her.  "Of course she is. Nothing will happen to her when I'm there."

Ness gave him a tight lip smile and walked back to Evelyn. Mike wished he would hurry up, he wanted Evelyn. He watched as Ness put his hands on her shoulders and cringed. Do you have to touch her?

After what felt like 20 minutes, Ness had pulled away and Evelyn was making her way over to him. Mike met the girl half way and stopped right in front of her. He gets a clear look at her face. She looks so tired. Is that a cut on her face? Mike was concerned.

"Evie, what happened?" Mike asked as he, ever so slightly, reached his hand out to touch it. The girl was still, letting him touch her after 6 years apart. Mikes thumb ran over the cut with such delicacy. 

To Mikes surprise, Evelyn let her head fall into his hand. Mike's heart was full. His girl was back. He was touching her, and she fell into his touch. "Can we talk tomorrow?" Evelyn said as she looked into his eyes, "I have questions and I can only imagine you do too. But tonight, I just want to sleep and forget about the day I've had."

Mike respected it. He wouldn't push her. He just was happy she was back home. Her took the bag from her hand and set it on the ground. Mike rushed to give her a hug, one hand behind her head to pull her into him, and the other around her waist. Evelyn hugged back immediately, bot arms going around his neck. 

A shock of familiarity hit him. This is what he was missing, what he longed for. He just hoped Evelyn was happy to be back as well. Pulling away, Mike picked the bag back up and ushered the girl in the house. 

"I will sleep on the couch, you take my bed. I don't want to hear any complaints, comments, or concerns from you. You're taking the bed and that is that." Mike started to walk her towards his room. Stupidly, his pills were still on the nightstand. He quickly snatched the bottle and put it into his hoodie pocket. 

Mike placed Evelyn's bag in front of the bed and took a step back. By the door, he could see Evelyn leaning against the door frame with her arms crossed. He didn't blame her for being closed off, nervous, or what ever you would call it. He felt the same. It was weird, but a pleasant weird. They would learn how to go back to their old dynamic. 

"I'll leave you be. If you need anything, I will be out here. Abby is asleep in the other room, I'm sure she will be excited to see you again." Evelyn looked up at him and smiled. Mike didn't know how much a smile could make him feel better, specifically hers.

"Thank you Mike." Mike also smiled and nodded his head. He moved to the door and grabbed the handle on his way out. "Goodnight Evie." 

"Goodnight Mike." The man shut the door and smiles. Here she was. Mike went to the couch and got comfortable. He stayed awake for about an hour, just to make sure the women in his bed didn't need anything. When his head hit the cushion, he fell into a peaceful sleep.
