𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳 8

"Hey!" Mike yelled out as he was chasing the man who had his hand on a kid. "Hey!" He ran as fast as he could. Eventually, he made his way to them. In a instant, Mike tackled the man into the water fountain and repeatedly punched him in the face. After Mike had gotten a couple hits in, he was pulled away. 

Evelyn was stunned. She witness the whole thing. She wanted to go and pull him off, but was held back by an unknow person. But once Mike was pulled away from the man laying in the fountain, she ripped herself from the one holding her back and made her way over to him. 

Mike had yet to notice she was there, his eyes were trained on the man in the water. Trained on what he had done. When he heard the word 'daddy!' being yelled from the little boy, he knew he messed up. He knew he had taken the sight out of context. His eyes were wide from the assault he had done, his breathing also very rapid. 

As soon as Evelyn was in front of him, her hands shot to his cheeks, gaining his attention. "Mike. It's okay, i'm right here. It's okay, breathe." She knew what he had done wasn't necessarily right, but something must have triggered him. Mike looked into her eyes and tried to calm his heart rate. 

"Can you let him go now?" Evelyn asks in her best intimidating voice. The man looked at her and said "He needs to go t-" Evelyn had enough. She cuts him off mid sentence while pulling Mike towards her. "I know where he needs to go, we're going."

Evelyn linked her arm into his and began walking to his supervisor's office quietly. She knew he would tell her about it on the way home. Evelyn stopped outside the door and gave a smile to Mike as courage to walk in. Mike walked in and changed out of his uniform. He was use to being fired, but it still didn't feel good. In his mind, he is a failure. He can't hold a job to take care of his family. It stung. 

He drooped the uniform in front on the desk, looked at his superior and said "I'm fired." and just walked out. He grabbed Evelyn's hand and walked to the car. Once they both were in the car, he let out a long sigh. "I'm sorry Evie." Evelyn grabbed his hand and responded, "Mike, it's okay. We will figure it out. Do you want to tell me about it?"

Mike knew he had to. He didn't just need to, he wanted to. He always felt better after talking to her. "When I was coming to visit you, I saw a little boy alone. Then, a man came over and grabbed him roughly to pull him away. It instantly took me back to-" Evelyn let her thumb dance over his hand, creating circles she hoped soothed him. "I couldn't let it happen again. As soon as I heard the boy call out for his dad, I knew I messed up." 

"Mike, it's alright. I understand why you did it. It would have killed you if that happened again. I get it." Evelyn reached over the middle console to pull him into a hug, her hand in his hair and the other rubbing his back. Mike flew his arms around her and soaked into her. She always made him feel like everything is okay. Her arms around him, how she smelled so good, and her loving words always did the trick. 

Mike slightly pulled away to look at her and asked the question he had in his head since he saw her face at the water fountain, "Are you mad at me? Scared of me?" Evelyn was loss for words. Of course she wasn't mad and she didn't think she could ever be scared at him.  "Oh honey, no. I understand your thought process, you did what you thought was right. I could never be scared of you. You are the most gentle, loving, and caring person I have ever met. Just because you had a slip up doesn't mean I would think of you any differently." 

Mike let out a breath he didn't know he was holding it. He would've hated himself more if she had said yes. He didn't want to become a person she feared. He grabbed her chin and pulled her lips to his. Evelyn, of course, melted into the kiss. She always did. It didn't last as long as they both wanted, but they needed to get Abby. 

Mike pulled away first. He ran his thumb on her bottom lip, pulling it down. He looked up into her eyes and back to her lips. Mike pressed a soft and short kiss to them. Evelyn let out a little laugh and buckled herself up, "Lets go get the wild child, shall we?" Mike agreed and drove to her school. 

Evelyn was at the neighbor Max's house, she needed her to watch Abby as Mike and her went to the career counselor. The door opened and Max's face appeared as the she held the door open enough for her face to show before opening it wider. Evelyn took a quick peek inside to see Max's brother inside. Evelyn didn't like him, he was always hitting on her.  "Hey Max. Can you watch Abby? Mike and I need to head out."

Max's brother let out a scoff before moving father into the house and away from the door. Max gave a small smile before saying, " Of course! Let me grab my jacket and I'll head over." 

"Sounds good, thank you!" Evelyn said as she walked back to her place to let Mike know that they were good to head out. When she entered she yelled, "Mike! Were good to go, Max can watch her!" Evelyn headed into Abby's room to let her know what was going on, even though she probably already knew by Evelyn yelling.  She entered the room and saw Abby inside her tent. Evelyn walked to her and knelled down. 

"Hey honey. Mike and I are going to head out, but Max will be here to watch you." Abby looked up to see her aunt. Abby liked Max, she really did, but she liked her Aunt Evie better. She gave a little nod and went back to her toys. Evelyn gave her a kiss on the head and walked out of Abby's room. 

Just when Evelyn got into the hallway, Max came in. She hung her jacket up and went to the couch. Evelyn gave a smile and walked into Mike's room. Mike turned around at the sound of the door opening. He walked over to her, grabbed her by her hips, and kissed her temple.

"Thanks for coming with me sweetheart." Mike said as he kissed her other temple. Evelyn smiled and responded by kissing his lips softly and quickly. "Of course. Now lets get going, Max is here." Mike nodded his head and snaked his arm around Evelyn's waist, pulling her into him. They walked out the room and to the door. "Bye Max, thanks again!" Evelyn yelled as they left the house. Both of them got seated in the car and headed out.
