Much to my surprise, my shop had been moderately repaired during my trip to the hospital. The broken window had been replaced, the debris cleaned up, and some of the wooden bookshelves repaired. And though the "Closed" sign hung on the door, Striker was lounging inside, reading a Louis La'mour paperback.
"What's all this?" I couldn't help but ask, looking around as I entered the shop.
Striker shrugged, setting the book to one side and stretching like a lazy cat, "Had to do something while you were indisposed. Sitting around for long periods of time is not my habit."
He paused, looking me over, then added, "How are you feelin', darlin'?"
I paused, unsure of how to answer. How did I feel? Overwhelmed? Pissed off? Finally, I replied, "I'm tired."
It wasn't a lie. Without questioning it, Striker nodded and motioned towards the stairs, Why don't you go to sleep then, darlin'? We can talk more in the morning."
