Before Aurora decided to do her residency at Seattle Grace, a hospital containing world renowned surgeons, she lived in England where she was faced with extensive trauma. She lived with her parents up until the point she went to medical school where she moved out and gained her independence while keeping a job so she could save up for her future and face less debt after she'd finished medical school. Before going to medical school, she took a gap year where she worked and went travelling with her best-friend. When Aurora was 17 she struggled with eating and her weight, over time she became anorexic and drove herself into the hospital due to her becoming severely underweight. While in hospital, she was told that if she carried on with the way she was she would die. Aurora was hit in the face with the reality of her condition so she spent weeks in the hospital recovering and getting her weight back to normal and facing her fears of eating, despite her still struggling with her weight up until present day, she could see herself getting better over time, facing her fear foods and being determined to stay at a healthy weight. However, struggling with her weight for such a long time, Aurora became depressed and when she went to medical school at 19, she was overwhelmed with stress and her anxiety levels rose and during one summer break at medical school she placed herself under psychiatric care for 3 weeks in order to get the help that she needed, this proved to be gratefully effective for Aurora and she continued to go to therapy from that day on.

Her leaving home to go to medical school after exploring the world meant she became distant from her parents, despite her still trying to keep in touch, her busy schedule made that very difficult and her continuing her medical career in Seattle, thousands of miles away from her family and friends made that even more difficult. However, despite being faced with all of this in her early life, Aurora Quinn was determined to not let that stop her as she knew she would one day be an excellent surgeon. She now keeps her anxiety under control as much as she can as to not let it get in the way of her life.

Before starting her residency at Seattle Grace hospital she made sure she had an apartment that was ready for her to move into as soon as she moved to Seattle which she had saved up for during medical school and her gap year. This meant that Aurora was slightly late into starting her residency year and her nerves grew but she didn't want that to stop her so she settled on making a good impression of herself.
