Farewell

As we all headed outside to wave Johanna off, my heart started to feel heavy at the thought of her leaving Panem- leaving me. Her taxi was patiently waiting on the cobbles, so our last goodbyes had to be quick. Johanna ran towards Peeta, and he hugged her tight, protectively. ''You're gonna be just fine.'' He said as they clung to each other.

''I know, you'll never have to hear my screams again.'' She joked.

''I'm only a phone call away Jo.'' He said as he released her. As they broke apart she whispered something in his ear and he nodded. I knew that look in his eyes, he'd promised something and the only problem was- I didn't know what.

Johanna said goodbye to Effie and Haymitch next, hugging them both tightly, saying a quick goodbye. Haymitch seemed a little more stable now, more himself, and so my mind was at rest for now. After she'd said goodbye to them, Annie was enveloped in her arms and all Johanna could say was 'you're going to be alright, don't worry, shh, you're my best friend An. Shh, don't worry,' over and over again.

After Johanna bid a very emotional farewell to Willow, Rye and Oakley, Charlie hopped into the taxi across the street. ''Goodbye everyone! I'd say I'm going to miss this place, but I won't- just the people in it. You all look after each other okay?'' She said as she crossed the road.

I ran across after her and grabbed her hand before she opened the door. ''No goodbye for me?'' I asked, hurt that I'd not gotten a farewell.

''I've never been good at losing the ones I love. Oh Katniss.'' She said as she hugged me tight, my shoulder began to feel damp and when I felt Johanna sob into my arm. ''This is why I couldn't say bye, it's too painful.'' She sniffled, wiping eyes.

''I'm going to miss you so much.'' I admitted.

''Thankyou so much Katniss, for everything. We'll see each other soon right?''

''Try and stop me.'' I laughed through the forming tears.

''Look after yourself brainless, and the kids. You're going to be just fine.'' She said, opening the door.

''Jo?'' She turned around before getting into the car. ''I'm, erm, you're the bestest friend I could've asked for and I truly hope you find happiness.''

''Oh Katniss.'' She cried as she gave me one last hug.

''I love you Jo.''

''I love you too Kat.'' Johanna closed her eyes, drawing in a deep breathe. ''Goodbye.'' She slid into her seat, closing the door and it was over. The taxi drove down the cobbles, its red lights gleaming as it braked at the traffic lights, then continuing down the roads and finally turning off left into the distance and into Johanna's new life.

''Come on you.'' I heard Peeta say as he wrapped an arm around me, guiding me back to where everyone was. ''She'll be fine, we all will.'' He said as he kissed my temple and I sobbed into his chest.

''Mu-ma are you okay?'' Oakley asked, as she tugged on my dress. I quickly wiped my eyes and picked her up.

''Mummy's fine angel.'' I said as I rocked and hugged her close.

Our train was due in around half an hour, so we all started saying our goodbyes. ''See you later you.'' I said, hugging my nephew tight.

''See you soon Auntie Kat.'' Finn replied.

''Where's your missus got to?'' I asked.

''She left earlier.'' He mumbled. I dryly thought how impolite it was to leave without saying goodbye to Johanna, or anyone else other than Finn, it was like she only came for the publicity of being at what was considered a 'celebrity party'.
