— in which kwon soonyoung has a soft spot for your cat.
MEOW!
k. soonyoungyou sighed heavily, rubbing your eyes as you got out of your short nap. looking at the bus stop, you were thankful you got up just in time.
you grabbed your suitcase and walked out, slowly making your journey home. the one thing you did like about leaving your workplace a little earlier was because you could see the sunset as you were walking home. you didn't mind living the quiet life. work, lunch, the occasional dinner with your high school friends you're still in touch with, visiting your family, watching movies, baking; you loved it. it was a comfortable place in life, and you were content.
your heels clacked on the ground. you didn't usually wear heels to work, but there was a company lunch today, and your chairman has a knack for following themes.
to you, it was a long day. you couldn't wait to get back home, cook a cup or two of instant ramen and snuggle up with your cat, watching kdramas. maybe even christmas movies, if you felt festive enough.
your housing area was louder than most. everyone in the neighbourhood would usually get around together to celebrate when its chuseok* or when the snow falls for the very first time. there would always be children running around near the park, the old couples settled around near the benches, the teenagers playing card games at the gazebo and the adults mingling with other families. you could name almost everyone in your neighbourhood, as if you've known them for the longest time; even if you only bought your house around three years ago.
it's been a while since you've seen everyone, but since christmas is coming up, the mothers in the neighbourhood group chat seem to want to throw their annual christmas potluck. it's another thing to look forward to.
secretly thanking the stars that your house was pretty near your workplace, you fastened your pace, the snowfall getting heavier as you walked.
after greeting the guards, you entered your street, seeing the place you call home from afar. but that wasn't all you saw.
a figure was crouched in the house next to you, the gates wide open. as you walked closer, you proved yourself right as your neighbour was sitting under the shade with around three layers of clothing.
a new neighbour came to town around a few months ago. you haven't seen him around a lot, but when you get up early enough either on pure accident or to go extra early to work, you'd see him either working out in his porch or leaving to work in his car at the peak hours of the morning.
even with your pretty unhealthy sleep schedule, he always manages to surprise you with the extremely odd timings of when he comes home. he's away from the house a lot, which explains why you haven't seen him around often or why he wasn't there during the small hangul party your neighbourhood threw a few months ago, around the time he newly moved in.
it seems like whatever job he's taken, it includes a lot of travelling. he seemed to be around your age, and pretty wealthy if you observed well enough. you were always curious, but not curious enough to ask.
you were about to walk past him, before you stopped in your tracks. he wasn't just squatting for no reason, he was playing with something. with a cat.
your cat.
as your cat circled around the man, he chuckled lightly, before it meowed at him once more. it was a rare sight to see your neighbour do more than work out or leave the house.
