— in which your ex is an asshole and your best friend won't stand by it

SO WHAT?
c. seungcheol

"i actually can't do this.." you sighed, sinking deeper into your hoodie. sowon, your roommate, was lying on your bedroom floor, enjoying the weird comfort of your somewhat fluffy carpet. "what if we just don't come in today?" she sounded from below you.

you lifted your head from your arms, your face drained of colour, but looking way better than it did the week before. "no, no. i've missed two week's worth of lectures."

sowon scoffed, "hey, technically, i've missed a month before. and you can just sit in online!"

"you know i can't do that."

you were nowhere ready to show up on campus again. you've basically been locked in your dorm room, sowon running some errands for you, only your best friends coming to visit some days of the week and you coping on takeout and cooked meals, which wasn't too bad and helped you save money as a university student.

even though your university was huge, it was one of the most prestigious in south korea. it was the hardest to get in, so the amount of students who enrolled were a big number, but not overwhelmingly large. almost finishing off your second year there, you could name a good majority of people in your graduating class. so not seeing somebody who's pretty popular in your batch would be almost impossible in a day.

you were an excellent student, liked by most of your lecturers. you had no idea what excuse to give people once they asked where you have been. maybe you'd lie and told them you got covid-19.

"you're right. you can't avoid jaehyun forever, anyway."

trying your best to look at least a tiny bit presentable in your hoodie, you took one last deep breath before walking out with sowon, and back onto campus.

surprisingly, your friends didn't ask. they didn't give you pitiful looks or constantly update you about jaehyun. it's been three weeks, maybe almost a month since the dramatic break-up, and you refuse to even dull on it anymore. you're gonna focus on your coursework, and try your best to avoid the man.

sitting in your usual seat in front of the lecture hall, you took out your books, and got on your phone.

y/n where r u
cheol im otw why
y/n hurry up bro ur seat's gonna get taken
cheol everybody knows i sit w u
y/n still.

you decided to open your books, starting your notes a little early before your teacher came in before a stack of books was put on the table right beside you.

"you're lucky teacher's late today–" you said as you looked up.

but it wasn't seungcheol sitting on your right.

it was jaehyun.

you sucked in tears that uncontrollably gathered and bit your tongue. you refused to look at him again, only facing front. no way you were going to cry. you just got here. your heart wouldn't start churning, you began bouncing your leg rapidly but softly, praying that seungcheol would appear right now.

"what are you doing?"

thank god.

you closed your eyes in relief once you heard his voice. you didn't have to look to know who was behind you. "i'm sitting in front. got a problem?"
