Chapter 10 (Lizzy's P.O.V)

I hurry into the Deadheads and get my shoes. I shove my feet into them and run off back towards where I came. I come out of the forest and slow to a jog, heading toward where I see Ably and my sister. When I get there Alice and Ably end their conversation and Ably begins talking.

"Lizzy, you'll be starting out your search for a job as a Slicer," that name can't be good,"Alice you'll go to the gardens." he says simply. He tells me where to go and I set off for a barn-like structure. When I get there I see a dog and immediately go up to it. He licks my face when I kneel down and pet him. I laugh and continue until I hear someone come up to me.

"Hey, my names Winston," he says,"lets get to work." I follow him in the barn and I see the dog trail behind me.

"What's the dog's name?" I ask looking back at him.

"Bark," Winston replies and continues walking. He shows me how to feed the animals and take care of them. When we finish that, I learn why the job was called a Slicer. We butcher a pig and prepare the meat for Frypan. The job is not preferable but the blood doesn't bother me. Before we started I put my hair up in a ponytail. I think Winston was surprised that I wasn't bothered by it. We finish up and I go take a shower. When I'm done I don't have to do anything else so I sit and hang out with Bark. It's a silly name, he seems really quiet. I love my new friend. Soon I go to Frypan's kitchen for dinner and I find Alice eating. When I sit next to her she seems bothered by something.

"What's wrong?" I ask and starts eating.

"They're having a Gathering, deciding what to do with Gally," she says. I nod and we're silent for a few seconds as we eat.

"Shouldn't you be there?" I ask and she shakes her head.

"Newt said it wasn't needed since I already told the story to him," she hasn't looked up from her food yet so I decide to lighten the mood.

"They have a dog," I grin. Alice looks up, confused or curious, I can't tell.

"A dog?" She asks and laughs slightly.

"His name is Bark," I nod and smile. She shakes her head. Thomas joins us and I remember this morning. Did he tell Minho? It would probably be good because if he liked me back then he would know I like him too. But embarrassing as hell if he doesn't. Alice grins. Shit. I look at Thomas, he's grinning. Shit. They laugh. SHIT. He told him.

"You told him didn't you," I say and scowl at Thomas.

"Told who what?" He plays dumb. I playfully hit him in the shoulder.

"You jerk! You told him!" Thomas grins again and Alice laughs. I put my head in my hands and laugh. I look up and continue eating. As we're finishing up Minho joins us with his dinner. He was in the Gathering.

"So what happened to Gally?" I ask leaning forward as he sits down next to Thomas, who was sitting in front of me. He shakes his head.

"They let the shank off with a night in the Slammer and almost the infirmary based on what Newt tried to do to him after wards, but neither of those things are ganna stop him from anything," this clearly upsets Alice.

"What the hell?! How am I suppose to sleep at night knowing that creep could do anything?" She yells as she slams her fist against the table. Minho looks over at me.

"Aren't they going to do anything?" I ask him. He shakes his head again.

"I don't know what's got into their shuck brains but I'm afraid of what he's going to do," he responds looking down at his food. I don't want anything to happen to Alice again. I guess Newt will protect her, but what about when he's not around? I guess I zoned out while Alice ranted about how they should lock him up forever or something.

"You okay, Greenie?" Minho asks.

I nod my head,"yeah," is all I say. I decide to change the subject. "So, there's a dog here, I love him," I laugh.

"Is that what you were thinking about?" Alice asks. I shake my head.

"You like dogs?" Minho asks.

"Nooooo, I just said I love him to confuse you," I say sarcastically and laugh along with Alice and Thomas. Minho grins. We finish up and I head to the infirmary. I don't get why I have to sleep there because I was fine all day. I settle in and think about what Gally could do. I hear the door open and I look over to see Minho. I sit up.

"Hey, Lizzy," he says.

"Hia," I reply and smile. I stand up and Minho closes the door behind him.

"I'm worried about what Gally's plans are," he says with worry lacing his voice and showing in his eyes. I look away.

"Ya, I'm worried about Alice," I say and scratch the back of my neck. My hair is still in a ponytail. Minho wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me closer. He looks down at me and I look up at him. He is several inches taller then me.

"What about you?" He whispers. That never occurred to me. I'm about to drift into thought when he pulls us closer together, closing the space between us, and presses his lips against mine. It startles me at first but then I relax and put my arms around his neck, resting my elbows on his shoulders. The kiss seems to drag out for awhile but it could have only been a few seconds. We pull away and Minho looks into my eyes neither of us say anything. We end up sleeping together, with me resting my head on his chest and his arm around my back, pulling me closer to him.
