Before I can react a blond boy kneels down in front of me. "Hold the Med-jacks!" he yells, "greenie's fine." He keeps his eyes dead on me the entire time. His deep brown eyes, despite their warm glimmer, send a prickle up my spine. God is he good looking. My cheeks darken, as if my mind is convinced the boys could hear my thoughts. "You remember your name?" he says, sympathy in his voice.
"Alice," I say, not quite audible. "Alice," I say again, this time louder.
"And the other greenie?"
I give a confused look. "The girl who came up in the Box with you," he says, explaining.
"Elizabeth," I say,"but call her Lizzy." He nods curtly, then turns and begins to run the opposite direction. He motions for two other guys to follow him. My eyes scan the crowd. I look for my sister, solely for her. That's when I see her disappear into the treeline of a forest, tail-ended by the three older guys. I hop to my feet and begin to run their direction, only to be grabbed from behind by a boy I couldn't see. The grab isn't implying me to stop. It's implying interest. Sexual interest. I grab his hands, unlocking them from around my waist and turning. I'm faced by an extremely ugly male who's nose seemed to be an exact replica of a potato.
"Name's Gally," he says with a smirk. "And what might your pretty little shuck name be?" I feel his hands finding their way around me again and give him a well deserved slap across the face and turn to run. I can hear his footsteps following me as I break the tree line. I scream my sister's name hoping someone will hear. The footsteps are growing fainter behind me and I see my chance. I take a sharp turn into the woods and duck behind a tree. I clamp my hand over my mouth and wait for the running steps to pass till I continue. I follow the faint sound of voices till I push a canopy of leaves out of my view and soak in the situation at hand. Potato face, or Gally, is half way scaled up a tree before he jumps down and lands easily. He walks over, eyes on me, till he's standing next to the blond dude who got me out of that box. He stands next to a tall, black guy with a strong build and a stern face. Then there's my sister gaping her ass off at an Asian guy who just became my sister's latest obsession.
"Lizzy!" I yell. We run together and hug. I hold tight to her. The only family of memory I have left.
"The Box arrived late today so Alby'll give ya the tour tomorrow," the blond guy says, looking dead at me. Was it just me or did I see something in those eyes. Probably nothing. Gally still has his eyes locked on me. I meet his gaze an he gives me a sickening smirk. The blond boy nods at the Asian guy and then turns and begins to walk away. Everyone begins to do the same but the Asian stays back by Lizzy and I.
"So, what's your name," he says.
"Elizabeth," my sister responds,"but call me Lizzy or something. Never Elizabeth."
"Okay shuck-face," the Asian guy says. He continues walking. My sister looks at me and I look back.
As soon as he's out of earshot I whisper,"you so like him!"
"Shut-up," she says, quickly changing the subject. "What's up with all these words like shuck or shuck-face."
"Not sure," I reply,"thanks for leaving me behind. They could've killed me!"
"But they didn't," she says with a grin.
Well, one of them did, I think, picturing the blond boy kneeling over me.
