Chapter 15 (Lizzy's P.O.V)

I find Alice and tell her they need her in the Gathering.

"Why do they need me?" She asks walking beside me. I look over at her and grin.

"Newt nominated you as a Runner," I say. She looks shocked.

"Really?" She asks and I nod. We head for the Homestead. On the way I tell her everything that happened. We enter the room where the Gathering is being held. Everyone looks over at us.

"Great timing," Newt says,"Just voted for your punishment, Lizzy. One night in the Slammer and you'll be a Runner starting tomorrow." I big smile comes across my face and I look over at Minho, he's grinning.

"What about Alice?" I ask Newt.

"We were just getting to that," he says. "We don't need you or Tommy any more so get out." I nod and Thomas follows me out. It's probably 5:00 so we get something to eat. Chuck joins Thomas and I soon after getting our food. I notice Gally, looking like he just cried, getting food.

"What's up with Gally?" I ask no one in particular.

"I don't know, he won't let anyone talk to him," Chuck replies. Even though I'm mad about what he did a small part of me is worried about him. After a while Alice, Newt, and Minho join us for dinner. We make conversation about the Gathering and I think Chuck feels kinda left out because everyone else was in the Gathering. Soon the doors close and I head to the Slammer, escorted by two Gladers. They put me in the small area and leave. I lay down and soon I hear foot steps outside.

"Who's there?" I ask, sitting up.

"Nice to see you to, Liz," Minho looks in through the door. I laugh. I notice he has some keys with him.

"Came to say good night?" I ask.

"Something like that," he says and unlocks the door. He comes in and closes the door behind him. I hug him.

"Thank you, for requesting me for a Runner," I smile, pulling away.

"No problem. At first I was afraid of what could happen to you out there but last night proved me wrong," he chuckles. We fall asleep cuddling.

Minho wakes me up before dawn and we go get Alice. We find her with Newt, of course. We knock on his hut's door and he opens it. I look through the door and see Alice still asleep in his bed. Newt gently wakes her up and she comes with us to get ready for running the maze. First we get shoes. Alice's feet are bigger than mine and she brags about it, of coarse. Minho also gives us digital black watches. We also get a backpack, water bottles, and a lunch pack. We are all set with the stuff Minho gave us. I look at the glove-thingies Minho has on.

"Do we get glove-thingies?" I ask gesturing to his hands.

"Glove-thingies?" He asks. I nod and laugh slightly.

"I don't know what to call them," I say. "Would you prefer Bob?" He laughs.

"We might have some that would fit you, if you want," he say. I nod.

"Me too!" Alice exclaims. Soon we both have Bobs. Next we get weapons from a secret room. Weapons line the walls, most covered in a thick layer of dust. I walk over to a rack with weapons on it.

"Usually we only bring a few sharp knifes," he says walking over to a wooden trunk in the corner of the room. I pick up a battle axe.

"I want THIS," I say holding it up. Alice laughs and Minho raises his eyebrows.

"Plan on runnin around these carrying that?" He asks.

"Well, it would fend off the Greivers," I laugh and he shakes his head.

"Anyway, pick a few knifes," he says opening the trunk,"make sure they're sharp." I put the axe back and pick two new-looking knifes.

"I will name this one Kindness," I announce, holding the knife in the air.

"That's what I was ganna do," Alice playfully slaps my arm. I grin.

"To late." we head out of the Homestead to get breakfast and pack lunch. We pass a mirror on the way out.

"I look badass," Alice and I say in unison. We laugh and continue. After eating and packing, we head to the Map Room. Minho shows us how everything works and tells us the importance of not giving up.

We head out the West Door, into Section Eight, and run through several corridors. We travel through the maze at a quick pace and make lefts and rights.
