Starting over

*7 years later*

"Yes Max, I'm safe, I'm just going to buy flowers for my mom because her 27-year-old daughter is going to live at her place for a few months till she finds a place to live" I say to him.

" Yes, okey good, say hi to your mom and tell her that she was a very good mother-in-law" he says, and I hear his voice crack.

"It's going to be okey Max, you became my best friend besides Damon, I will stay in contact with you, and you can always come visit my mother would love to see her third son" I say and laugh at the comment I made, and I hear him laugh at the other side of the phone.

We said our goodbyes and I left my car to go to the flower store. When I walk out of the store, I see a man in a black suit walk my way, and he nods his head kindly to me. I have a feeling that I have seen him before, but I can't put my finger on it from where. 

I open my beautiful white Audi A3 sport model car. Yes okey, maybe I'm just in love with my new car, but this was always the car of my dreams. 

When I drove home I started to think about Max and our relationship, don't get me wrong I love him but we both wanted different things. He got an opportunity to go live outside the country and work for his dream company, while I just wanted to stay in my lovely country close to my family and friends. That's also why I'm moving back in with my mom because I got an opportunity to work in the school where I went when I was a small kid. The people that work there have known me since I was small and since the PE teacher is now on pension, I didn't wait a second to contact them and I got the job. They also asked me if I wanted to take the job as a school counselor since I had the most free time as a PE teacher. I start next week since that is when the new school year starts. 

I barge into my mom's house with my suitcases, and I'm met with a waggling tale of a cute black Labrador. I immediately went to hug him, and he started to lick my whole face. My mom got a dog when my brother left the house because she and Nick felt alone.

"Is someone home" I yell through the whole house. I hear the door open and close from upstairs. I see Nick coming from upstairs and greet him with a warm hug.

"Welcome home Brooke" he says 

" Where is mom?" I ask, and he tells me that she is probably in the garden since it's the end of August it's harvesting time.

I put my old boots on and go looking in the garden for my mom. 

" Come on Lexy, search for Mom" I say to the dog, and she immediately starts to sprint to the back of the garden where all the vegetables are growing.

"Ey not that fast, not because I ran every day that I want to do that in the middle of the day when it is 32 degrees outside" I yell at the dog and I start to walk faster.

" Hey kiddo" my mom says and hugs me.

"Want to give me a hand with those cauliflowers here" she says and gives me the knife.

" With the vegetables yes, but with killing chickens and ducks, no, thank you" I say, and she starts to laugh at that.

"So did you already look around for a nice house nearby? I saw one that is as small as our house but with the same amount of land around it, It's near the church" my mom says while she cuts the cauliflower.

"Oh I'm just here, and you already want to get rid of me" I say laughing, and she gives me a dirty look.

"Yeah I saw it when I drove past it, it's a very beautiful house, but I don't think I have the money for it, especially as a teacher" I say to her.

"Oh, that's the only problem, money ? Go look at it, tell me how much it is, and if you like it, we will pay what you need for the house" she says to me and I give her a warm hug.

"What, we also paid for your brother's house, I mean it's a flat but still that flat cost me a whole house, so you deserve the same" she says and I thank her.

I go upstairs to my room and put my computer on to find a number for the house. I make a quick call, and they tell me that I can come look tomorrow.

I came home from the viewing and my mom was already asking me questions. The house is beautiful. It's been everything that I have dreamed of. There is only one problem, I need to renovate it because it has old water pipes and the electricity is old, but besides that everything is new. 

"Go Brooke call them and say that you will take" my mom says as excited as me.

" Are you sure it's not cheap?" I say with a concerned look.

"Of course, do it fast, so you can start renovating fast" my mom says.

I make a quick call and I own a house, OMG, I would have never thought that it would go that simple. It's all thanks to my mom.

"Brooke, dinner is ready" Nick says.

"So, are you ready for the new school? Only three days and then it starts" Nick asks.

"I think I'll never be ready for a new school year, but I'm excited to see those cute faces every day" I say with a smile on my face
