I finished up in the bathroom and walked out of the bathroom with the towel wrapped around my head and walked right to my small little nightstand and started taking off my jewelry that I had with me. there was no sight of Maverick so I thought that meant I had won.

I was mistaken though because he came walking into the room when he heard me and laid down on my bed. I laughed seeing his body just sink into the bed.

"Can you tell me why you fainted today?" he started off easy at least. I sat down on my bed next to him starting to put my face moisturizer on.

"I was really hungry. all I had today was lunch with your sister." he picked up his phone and typed for a few seconds before putting it down and sitting up looking at me.

"Can I see it?" I already knew what he was asking so I stood up and lifted up my shirt a little so he could see the bruise. his eyes got darker but he calmed them taking in a breath. He lifted his hand slowly and softly ran his fingers over it making shivers go to my body. God I wonder what those hands would feel on other parts of my body.

"Who?" he asked looking back up to me "The truth." I let out a sight as I let the shirt slip from my fingers.

"you know your confusing right...why do you need to know." he stood up in front of me. "So I can know who the hell to knock out if they come here."

"Thanks Cowboy but I got this." I started jumping around him keeping my hands at my face pretending to punch him.

I could tell by the look on his face he was not amused by my attempt at getting off the conversation. "fine dude it was my ex fiance. Are you happy? He used to hurt me. I knew I had to get out of there so I guess I can be happy my sister did what she did...now I just know she is stuck with the abuse." Is it shitty of me to think she's getting her karma now? i mean yeah she's my sister but she never knew what she was getting herself into with this. Not only did I feel betrayed by a sister, I also felt torn. I guess I can thank her because I didn't think I could do what I'm doing now if this didn't happen.

He just shook his head, backing away from me going to the other side of the room.

"I'm sorry" is all I said feeling like I did something wrong.

"You didn't do anything Lainey...I just don't get how you can laugh about this stuff and try to act like it's not bad." I shrugged my Shoulders "I mean it could be worse"

"See that right there is bad."

"Cowboy, why do you care so much?' I laughed taking my hair out of the towel. He just looked at me and sighed, shaking his head.

"I doordashed a pizza. I hope you're hungry." was all he said before he walked into the kitchen to start working on building the table back up.

Mavericks POV

I don't know why I cared so much about how this girl got here or how she got hurt but I did. I don't know why I stayed and ordered our food and started to build her kitchen table when I said I could tomorrow. I don't know why I reacted the way I did when I saw her tan skin in that little blue night set with her golden hair falling down her back.

I was really going to have issues if this girl said she was working for me. I would be taking a lot more off days because I feel everything this girl has on turns me on in some way.

The pizza got here just in time as I finished with the table and we both sat down at the kitchen table together to eat. I watched as she quickly grabbed the big piece in the box and put it to her lips. made me laugh seeing a tiny thing like her do that.

"So, Cowboy, did you play any sports in high school?"

"Captain of the football team."The amusement in her eyes lit up when I said that.

"Oh my gosh you're the small town boy who's in every romance book!" her laughter filled up the room as she leaned back in her chair pulling her leg that she had up to her chest with her. "What the Hell does that mean?" I questioned.

"Well you played Football for your high school and were the star player ." She began her assessment of me still keeping the pizza in her hands. "I'm guessing dating the beautiful Blonde cheerleader?" A little smile went to my face as I looked down at my food. "ohhh you two were prom king and queen too...let me guess you even went into the military for a little?" Now that made me laugh.

"wrong or right?''

"That's good so far... I was in the marines" the satisfied look on her face was cute.

"She broke your heart though. turned you into the brooding handsome Bar owner who came back into town and lived a life of freedom and peace till one lucky girl came in to SNATCH it.' she jumped closer to me laughing. her face was only a few inches as i leaned in.

"You think I'm Handsome?" The spark in her eyes was crazy. I could see why any man would fall for this girl's charm. she smirked but continued. "But you're just too heartbroken to let anyone into your heart to break down your walls" her hand went to her forehead as she leaned back and sighed.

"Will he ever learn to love!" she cried before bringing the pizza back to her lips.

"That's a great story."

"thank you"

"Should totally turn that into a book one day."

"Ok Cowboy... any more siblings?"

"just me and Hanna... What about you? Do I get to make a story out of you?" she smiled and shrugged her shoulders. "Go ahead and try your best."

"Ok give me your sport.''

"I was a volleyball player."

my mind instantly went to the thought of her ass in those tight shorts...

"ok... Volleyball player... you were a good girl never disappointed mom and dad...probably top of your class?" when she didn't give me a yes or a no I continued.
"you were always searching for love. probably had a lot of boyfriends growing up but never really found love."

"Ahhh" she said leaning closer to me again.

"Found this Dick of an ex and thought it was love till you saw the truth and now you're in a small little town trying to butter me up just to confess you've wanted to have sex with me since the minute our eyes met when you walked in my bar." Her laughter was so cute and contagious.

"Now look at who is making up a good book."

"Well how did I do?"

"Well sorry to break it to you...you're not fully right." I wanted to know everything about this girl.

"Do tell how." I grabbed another piece of the pizza waiting for her to tell me.

"I don't have a dad...not one in the picture at least. my mother raised me and my sister on her own till she passed of cancer when I was 16...my sister and I lived with our aunt till I was 20 when I moved us both out of the house to live with my very first and only boyfriend Derick while I forced myself to go to college to just get my history degree which took longer than I like to say to get and after worked at my boyfriends firm because he's a lawyer."

"I'm sorry" I said softly when I heard all this information. she just shrugged her shoulders and continued eating her pizza letting the silence fill the room and the game ended.
