Mavericks POV.

The car ride had been quiet. She wasn't really talking but kept looking out the window at the town. Hanna definitely got to her. I would get her if she said anything bad.

I quickly pulled the car to the left and went down a long old road that brought back a lot of memories. Laineys eyes looked at me finally. "Mav this isn't the way home."

I didn't say anything. I wanted to let her sit there and think about what could be happening. "Hey if you're taking me out here to kill me your sister will have the whole murder solved in 2 days." I let out a little laugh at that but kept driving till we came up on the spot that brought me right back to being a kid. It was a little lake that me and Hanna had gone to a lot when it was a hot summer day and we wanted something to do. the amount of pirties we had back here when we were in high school and all too. There were a lot of good and bad memories here. right now I am focusing on the good.

"It's beautiful here...so why kill me here." I just rolled my eyes and got out of the car and went right up to her side to help her out. Once she was on her feet I stepped back and took my shirt off. the way her eyes got wide made me smile. "Hot." she said, crossing her arms with a little smile as she leaned into the door. I kicked my shoes off next and started walking to the lake as I took the rest of my clothes off before quickly jumping into the water.

"You're coming!" I called keeping myself afloat as I watched her make her way to the edge of the water. she just rolled her eyes at me and lifted her dress up off her body. That was a memory I wanted engraved in my head forever. "Turn around Cowboy." she had her hands on her hips.

"I've seen it already, baby." I could tell she wasn't going to let it go so I gave in and turned around. seconds later I could hear the sound of splashing. I turned around to see her swimming out to me.

"So how many girls did you bring out here?" she asked as I grabbed her, pulling her body to mine. she wrapped her legs around my waist as I kept us up.

"Only 2 but you're the first to actually get in the water with me." I smiled , spinning us around. "Well don't get too comfortable, I don't think this is very safe."

right as she said that we both heard the sound of alarms go off and I saw the blue and red lights. I pulled her body behind mine covering her as she clung onto my back.

"We aren't in High School anymore Maverick." came through the speaker in the car and I rolled my eyes knowing right away who it was.

"Gabe, go away!" I called my best friend and the captain of our police department. I watched as he got out of the car and made his way to the edge of the water with a cocky little smile on his lips.

"I had neighbors that called and told me they saw a car go down this road and thought it was two teenagers..."

I wasn't in the mood for this right now. "Gabe, my girl and I right now have nothing on." Gabe looked to the side where Laineys stuff was and it was like realization hit him. He quickly turned away and went to the side.

I took Lainey by the arm and pulled her out helping her back into her clothes before I rushed to put my stuff on. I went to the back of my truck and found a towel and gave it to her before putting her in my truck.

"What you guys got nothing to do so you have to come and ruin my good time." I hissed at him as he leaned on his car.

"Now she's in there worried." I leaned on the other side of the car next to him and looked back at Lainey who had her head down. "Well I'm sorry I was doing my job... Austin also warned me that you and your sister were fighting and he wanted me to make sure you were ok. I was just about to text you when I got the call for this and thought I would take care of it."

"Yeah well my sister is a baby. she's mad that i'm talking to this girl." Gabe looked at Lainey and waved and she gave a shy wave back. "she's pretty...way out of your league" I rolled my eyes as he laughed

"What's Hannas problem with her? doesn't your sister try to set you up with random girls all the time?" The last girl Hanna tried to get me with was one that wouldn't have worked even if Hanna wanted it to. She was nothing like Laniey and I'm not the type for relationships. I'm happy Lainey was ok with that. "Hanna just is the way she is. I think she's more worried that I will hurt this girl."

"Well you do have a long list of girls in this town that you've made your way through." I clapped my hand down on his shoulder "thanks for the pep talk bud. I'm going to go home now."

"I could have given you a ticket!" he called as I walked off. I threw my middle finger up to him as I kept going, finally getting to my car.

"I'm sorry about that." I hopped into my car and started to pull it out of the drive to go back on the road. "What do you want to do when we get back?" I was trying to make the situation a little better. she smiled "Christmas movie night!"

"It's June." She looked at me like I had killed a cat. "You can always celebrate christmas.'' I threw my hands up in defeat knowing that's what we were going to be doing tonight.
