Laineys POV

The next day I had started my time at the bar. My first night and I thought I was doing pretty good. I haven't worked in a restaurant in years but I was willing to give it a shot.

I picked up a tray of drinks and walked over to the rowdy table filled with guys that were celebrating a 21st together. I made sure to be careful not to give the wrong drink to anyone and watched where I was walking. I felt eyes on me and looked up to see that Maverick was watching me from behind the bar. He had this funny look on his face as he held onto the glass he was cleaning. I shrugged it off and made my way to the end of the bar to grab the drinks for my next table.

"Big crowd that one." Ethan the other bartender laughed as he helped me put the drinks on my tray. Ethan was a nice guy that I had gotten to talk to much today. He had dark brown hair and brown eyes to go with it. he had really just kept me happy on my first day.

"Yeah, apparently they are from out of town. just passing through but nothing I can't handle."

I grabbed the tray and started walking to the next table, almost bumping into one of the guys as they ran across the room to the jukebox.  I successfully got the drinks to the table as the music got louder. I looked to Mav who was busy with a customer to even care. as I was going back to the bar I was grabbed and pulled into the guy who almost bumped into me.

"dance with me, pretty lady!" he said, sounding completely wasted. I laughed and tried to get out of his grip. "I'm good" as I tried to move again he pulled me to him harder swinging me around as his friends all laughed.

What I definitely didn't see coming was Maverick coming from behind the bar and ripping me from the guys arms and putting me behind him like a big ape man. "DON'T lay your hands on my employee." he hissed, scarring the kid half to death. I stepped around Mav and pushed him on the chest to look down at me.

"Mav...I got it." He looked so pissed off right now and I didnt understand why. He backed off going back to the kitchen to get out of the view of everyone around us. I turned back to the kid to apologize and I went back to doing my job.

"Hanna, what are we doing?" I laughed as I followed her up the steps to the roof of the building holding my wedding dress in my arms.

"Don't you worry your little head about it." She threw the door open and there was a firepit going and a nice set up to sit around it with wine on the table. "Now I know it's silly but I thought you might want to burn that crappy dress and we can drink and watch it burn along with all the shitty memories with it.''she explained as we walked closer to it. I looked down at the torn and blood soaked dress. I never liked it all that much. It was what Shanes mom wanted me to pick.

"Hanna, that's the best idea I've heard yet." The smile on her face was the best. The moment was interrupted by the sound of a throat clearing. We looked to the side of the roof to see Maverick leaning on the ledge with a cigarette in his mouth. He looked so sexy right now the way he stood there in his jeans and shirt from work.

"Mind if I join?" he asked, pushing forward making it into the group. I shrugged my shoulders. He had left work in a rush right after what happened today and had not said anything to anyone. I almost felt like I did something wrong or something to piss him off.

"why don't we start with this." Hanna picked up my hand to show I was still wearing the engagement ring. I had been so used to wearing it for the past year I almost forgot it was on my hand.

I pulled it off and looked at it one last time before I threw it into the fire. I felt my heart sink a little as I did that but it also gave me a little relief as I thought about what he had done to me.

"ok wine" she turned around and gave me a glass and started filling it up and I quickly downed the glass. I finished it and looked back to Maverick and Hanna and saw them both with shocked looks on their faces.

"damn ok hang on." Hanna didn't let me go alone. she downed her whole glass and then filled both of them back up. It was a funny feeling to have someone like this get so close to me in a very short amount of time. I liked it.

"Ok now let it burn." She took a step back and watched as I threw the damn dress into the fire. We all stood there for a second watching it just as the flames went.
"Shit ton of money we just burned there." Maverick said, breaking the silence, making all three of us break out into laughter.

"I am so grateful for you." I slurred as I held onto Hannas neck as she sat in her husband's car.

"I'm so happy you stumbled into this town."  she said holding onto me too.

"How much did they drink dude?" Austin asked Maverick as they stood together watching us behind me.

"A whole bottle and a half. I took it from them when they both started hiccuping at the same time."

"Damit. Do you know how hard it is to get your sister to sleep?" we both turned to the boys to see Mav smiling "Yeah I do. The funny thing is dude I warned you and you still married it."

"HEY" both of them jumped and looked at Hanna whose body was now half way out of the car.

"You're my brother and are supposed to take care of me." Then she pointed to Austin. "And if you want sex ever again I suggest you watch what you say next."

"I'm going to be sick" Maverick moved to the side making both me and Hanna laugh. "Hanna, if you're good in the car then I'll get you ice cream." Austin said and I had never seen Hanna get so composed. she sat back in her seat, cleared her throat and it was like she sobered up.

"Goodnight Lainey...Goodnight brother." Mav's jaw was on the floor.

"18 years living together and I couldn't do that.''Austin walked around to the driver's side with a smug look on his face knowing he figured out the way to this woman's heart. It was actually cute how they were together. and Hanna really did love him; she wouldn't stop talking about him for most of the night. I wanted something like that.

"alright you." Maverick pulled me into his chest holding me as I held onto Hannas hand.

"I'll text you tomorrow. you should come to dinner with my mom and us this friday."

"I would love to." I said as the car started leaving me behind with nothing but a soon to come hangover and the hot brother of my friend in that car.

I huffed dropping my arms as Maverick sood behind me with his arms still around me laughing at my childlike behavior. "Come on darling, let's get you to bed." he pulled me to walk with him back to my apartment.

"I need a shower." I said bumping into my door as I walked into my room.

"I don't think that's smart. you can't stand straight right now." he laughed trying to put me in my bed. I pushed from his hold and grabbed a hold of my shirt. as I started taking it off I could feel fire on me. I turned around and saw Mavericks eyes burning into mine.

I tried not to smile as I stepped back a little, grabbing onto my shorts.

"Lainey" he warned but I wasn't letting down. I took them off leaving me in my matching red bra and panties. I don't know what came over me right now but it was something I had wanted for a while now.

"If you're that worried then you can Join me" I held out my hand but he didn't move. Instead he handed me a towel and walked over to my bed laying his body down covering his face with a sigh.

I felt this ping of pain hit me as I realized maybe I was wrong. maybe he wasn't into me like I thought. I turned around fast, getting into the shower letting the tears fall from my face as I stood there in the water.

Once I was out I wrapped my body in the towel after cleaning myself off and putting moisturizer on. I rushed out the door completely sober now. I was fuming.

I rushed to my closet and grabbed one of the shirts I got and boyshorts and slipped them on under the towel. as I put the shirt over my head I pulled the towel from me and turned to face Mav who was sitting up in the bed watching me.
