Maverick POV

"I'll take you." I don't know why I said it but something in me didn't like seeing this girl upset. I also didn't want her to think I was trying to not help her.

"A-are you sure?" She asked, looking at me.

"GREAT!"Hanna jumped up, taking one last sip of her wine before putting the money down.

"I will see you tomorrow." She looked at Lainey.
Then turned to me. And gave me a hard look before putting in a smile. I knew that look was a warning.

"Maverick be good."

I nodded my head but knew there was another meaning behind that.

"All right!" I clapped my hands together when my sister left the bar.

"I can take you down to Franks and we can get some of the furniture from him. I know that he took It out of the room not too long ago just because he knew someone new would be coming. Little did he know. You would come into town with nothing" I laughed a little walking out from behind the bar

"Didn't have much time to pack a bag" she shrugged, getting off the chair and following me. We went out the door and her head snapped to where her car was last night.

"I hope you don't mind but I did drive your car to your apartment."

"No, it's fine. you could have driven it to a lake and sunk it for all I care." I could understand her feelings there.

I walked her over to my car but before I could grab the handle to the door she was already opening the door. I quickly shut it, making her physically jump back.

"Mavrick what the hell" I just rolled my eyes and took hold of her waist. she slipped a little getting in and I was quick to put my hand right to her butt. what neither of us were expecting was for my hand to be under her skirt.

She was quick to jump right into the car and my face went white. I held onto the door and to her head rest as I looked into her baby blues.

"Lainey I am so sorry" she did what she does best and started laughing at the uncomfortable moment

"Mav you need to know I normally have underwear on. I only rolled into town with the pair I had on last night and I just Bought a bunch today and oh my God now I really wish I had a drink." words just started coming out of her as I tried not to freak out. I felt my Dick get hard at the thought of the new stuff she got.

Come on Mav got to find a way out of this. do something or say anything... but I couldn't. I was too scared to say anything. What I wanted to do was kiss her so hard it made her head spin and maybe even get a shot to see what's under the damn skirt but for many reasons I couldn't do that. One, I'm a gentleman. my thoughts might not always be but I would never hurt a woman. Secondly, I Didn't need people to see that. there was also the thought that she might not feel the same damn way as I do. I only hoped she didn't look down.

"Mav im so sorry I know you did not mean for that to happen can we please just let it go." she was still trying to find the right stuff to say.

"Pretend like it never happened." I said softly, still looking into her eyes. she was beautiful damn this was going to be so hard for me to keep my mind off of these eyes and what just happened.

"Exactly." she nodded her head. I pushed away from her and closed the door. As I walked around the back I fixed myself cursing myself for saying I would help her. it was going to be hard to do that now after what happened.

The car ride to Franks was so silent that you could have heard the people in the cars around us talking. i wondered if she was still freaking out in her head about that. she didn't seem to be the type to talk about the stuff that bothered her. more like she kept it in. I guess I can't blame her. I never opened up about things that were bothering me. That was one thing I just couldn't do to save my life. thought it was better not to let people know something is up.

When we pulled up to Mr. Frank, I made sure to help her out of the car the right way this time. I only held onto her waist and let her drop to her feet in front of me.

I saw her look up to me with her lips in a pout. I put a smile on my face and put my fingers on her lips pulling them up. "Pretty people shouldn't have frowns on their faces" I saw a hint of a blush on her face when I said that. she slapped my hands away laughing a little.

"You're weird" she rolled her eyes, stepping around me taking a step closer to Frank's house.

The door opened and out walked Frank onto his wrap around porch. He was an older man with pepper hair and gray eyes. He was tall but with age has shrunk a little to being a few inches below me. He had a smile plastered on his face as he saw us walking up.

Lainey stopped in her tracks looking up at Frank almost like she had seen a ghost.

"Lainey?" I wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her to my side. I was instantly holding her up when her body went limp in my arms.
"Maverick, bring her in here!" Frank hissed as I lifted her legs up, putting her fully in my arms. I ran up the front steps and rushed through to his living room where I put her down on the couch.
"Mary, get a glass of water!" Frank called to his wife who must have been in the Kitchen. within seconds Mary was walking to us.

"What are you screaming-" her eyes went to Lainey who was still not up. "Oh dear!" she moved to Lainey helping her sit up feeling her head. Mary used to be a nurse a long time ago so I knew Lainey was in good hands.

"The poor thing looks like she's been beaten up!" Frank's eyes went right to me like I had done it.

"This is the girl staying in your apartment. She came into town last night with nothing but some cash and a wedding dress. said she got in a fight right before she came here." I let all the information I had on this girl come out.

"Well some of this is definitely fresh but look at this one." Mary lifted up her shirt just a little to show a bruise that was on her side just below her breast.

"Maverick because of the color of this one it shows that it's been there for a while. I would say at least a week or two now." I felt this instant fire build up in me as I heard her say that. How did I not see this on her? who in the hell would hurt her like this...
