9: souls
"Sukuna~ Sukuna~"
"What now?"
"This Excellency quitted the brothel for you; won't you give this Excellency a reward?"
Currently, this pair of shaman and curse was on their way back to the curse's abode. After tasting Sukuna, the rest of the people who Shen entertained didn't taste as appetizing as before so he got up and resigned without care. Instead, he followed the curse back, and this time, the shaman pestered him for a different kind of fight.
In turn, Sukuna regretted his impulsiveness that night.
As a curse, Sukuna only ever wanted to wreck havoc anywhere he went. Yet from the moment he met this lunatic, there wasn't enough time to do so. Chasing after this human to kill him took most of his time, and spent every day fighting or rejecting this battle maniac.
He might be a heartless, ruthless curse but even someone like him wanted a day of rest.
Now?
Rest seemed to be a foreign concept.
"Your reward is to get out of my sight."
"Tsk tsk," the shaman clicked his tongue in a playful manner. "Here I was expecting for you to accidentally murder this Excellency amidst ecstasy. It'll remain a fantasy from now I see."
The things this human said often rattled Sukuna's worldview. He had never seen a human so eager to die and killing someone like this lunatic wouldn't give Sukuna any sort of pleasure at all. What he wanted to see was the expression of fear humans' wore as he killed them.
Imagining this maniac on the verge of dying, wearing a smile as if it were the happiest day in his life, nauseated the curse.
The two of them chose a rarely used forest path to travel. Even if they could get back to the village in one night's journey, the pair had a non-verbal agreement to take their time.
On Sukuna's part, it was to search for a place to vent his anger. On the other hand, Long Shen wanted more time to persuade the curse into having sex again without Uraume, that third-wheel, around.
Soon, however, Long Shen gave up for the day because no matter how annoying he became, the curse beside him didn't react. Like a damn rock unbothered by external affairs. On the third day of their trip, the sound of children laughing and humans bustling around reached their senses.
"Lunatic Shen," this was the first time Sukuna said his name, stunning the shaman in place. "You won't protect these humans if I play around with them?"
The question surprised Shen, who did not expect this curse who usually did what he wanted, because he thought that Sukuna would just charge in. It made him laugh, however, and said through chuckles, "Why would this Excellency ever protect them? They have nothing to do with me. Besides, only the strong survive in this world. This Excellency shall cheer for you on the side!"
Once again, the shaman revealed a part of him that humans considered a monster. Long Shen had no room in his heart for people who didn't interest him, nor people who he had no debt to. For now, the people he intends to protect were his elder sister and the madame who lent him a hand after getting stranded in this country.
A light of mischief glistened in his eyes. "Or shall this Excellency be your company as you shed blood on the lands?"
The corner of Sukuna's lips twitched.
Crazy.
This human was really crazy.
But Sukuna, who only sees humans as props for his entertainment, found that the shaman's words were to his liking.
