11: stay
"A kid followed you back?"
Peeking behind the door was a little kid whose head couldn't even reach half of Long Shen's thigh. She had black hair, big round eyes, and an innocence that only children like her possessed. Right now, the little girl shifted her big eyes from Sukuna to Long Shen and repeated it several times until she ended up making herself dizzy.
Falling on the floor, the little girl rubbed her eyes before getting back up on her feet, hiding behind the door once more. Sukuna rolled his eyes, entering the abode while ignoring the tagalong who followed him from outside. Long Shen eyed the little girl, curious where she came from.
The shaman and the child stared at each other, and the child broke the silence.
"Mister, are ya that big mister's wife?"
"..."
Sukuna, who was about to take a bath: "... pfft—" he glanced at the shaman from the corner of his eyes. "Seems like this human girl has sharp eyes."
"Very funny," Shen stuck his tongue out at Sukuna before kneeling in front of this bold little girl. Who gave her the guts to follow the King of Curses and say that he, Long Shen, was a wife? "Say, little girl, this Excellency is curious. Why did you follow that big mister over there? Don't you know that humans run away at the sight of him?"
"Why?" Came the human girl's curiosity. "Big mister is 'eally cool! Ib I hab big four arms, I can wift many things!"
Oh my... Shen suddenly picked up the little girl, and instead of crying, the child laughed and waved her arms in the air. The shaman practically shoved the child towards Sukuna's direction, who had been watching in silence for a while now. "Sukuna, Sukuna, let's keep the human girl!"
"What the—" Sukuna pushed the little girl away by the face, causing her to laugh. "Are you not of sound mind? A weak little maggot won't survive when a curse and a lunatic look after it. You can't even look after yourself properly, Shen."
Sukuna's rejection made the shaman huff and he put the child down in dismay. "What a shame," Shen patted the girl on the head and straightened her little hakama. "Little girl, what's your name? This Excellency had taken quite a liking to you. If you are in need in the future, you may seek this Excellency out for help."
"I dun 'eally get what ya sayin' but Yemi's name's Chiyemi! And, And family name is sounds wike a fwish. D'ya know what a fwish is? It's 'eally good! Tasty! Yummy!"
Her little dance at the end garnered her a round of applause from Shen.
This day was just a fleeting moment, but a memory that was quite memorable.
...
Autumn had come, and the winds grew cold.
The new location of Long Shen's and Sukuna's abode could be found in the mountain, and a city built at the base. It was convenient for Shen needed to buy human necessities. The curse chose this place amongst others because even though they were near civilization, the humans in that city dare not climb the mountain.
Because wild animals roamed around, and several mysterious deaths occurred in the past. Thus, the mountain gave him and Shen their much needed alone time.
Lying down in the pavilion erected in the courtyard garden, Long Shen flipped through a book, reading literature to pass the time. They were quite a distance away from the capital, Heian-kyo, and the influence of refined literature has yet to spread. So, the poetry in his hands still had inklings of needing revisions.
