Alora POV

I tried to keep Jathred as updated as possible but being honest. I don't really have a lot of time for chitchat when I have a good dozen of angry ass rogues coming at me all at once.

Their formation didn't make sense. Instead of organizing themselves in a V shape to engage in contact or even a horizontal lineup to cover ground, they started to line up behind his leader in a straight line as they approached us. I have never seen that before.

As soon as I had them close enough, I quickly looked into their leader's fears. His were the only set of eyes I was able to see. In an instant, I was able to see what he wanted. He wasn't coming for the kill. They were planning to take me with them... alive.

This was a kidnap attempt. Well, good luck.

The second they came in contact with us, one of the rogues jumped on Mathias, separating him from me, and the one behind him clung to Roger, rolling away with him on the dirt. It took them about five seconds to surround me. Bring it on.

These guys were definitely more experienced than the army of omegas we had faced before, but most of them had flaws in their combat training. It didn't take me and my squad too long to start breaking their circle apart. As I was trying to get to their leader, two of their wolves jumped on my back, pinning me to the ground. I tried to roll away to stand up, but they had to be the heaviest rogues on my back, no doubt.

For a quick second, one of them clenched his teeth behind my neck, but just as fast as he got on me, through the corner of my eye, I saw Thierot jumping on the rogue to get him off my back. Without the weight of the rogue on me, I was finally able to stand up and face the other wolf that had me on the ground.

Shit. These guys weren't easy to kill. They were giving us a tough fight, but luckily, all of my wolves were still standing, and only about eight of their best wolves remained.

There must have passed about five minutes when I felt the ground shaking—the Beta squad.

Mathias was here with his entire squad. Nice.

The rogues weren't stupid. They know they were outnumbered by a lot. Thirty wolves against eight. They don't stand a chance. As soon as they got a sight of Mathias, their leader howled them for a retreat.

Good.

I saw them running away at full speed, straight to the oddly stoic vampires, witnessing the scene unraveling before them.

Thana rubbed her face against Thierot's wolf, thankful for his help earlier. I thought this was over; the rogues were far past our border, but Mathias wasn't slowing down. He and his squad were heading full speed at the retreating rogues.

Are we going for them? Really? Our orders are always to stay within our borders. I guess Mathias is under other indications.

Let's go then.

As the Beta squad ran past us, we joined them in a double V formation. Thierot was leading our V, running two steps behind Beta Mathias, and the rest of us took our place by his side, each of us running directly behind each member of the Beta squad.

When the rogues saw us coming, they braced themselves for battle. That much I can respect. At this point, they know they have lost, but at least they are ready to die fighting.

Shit. As we got closer, I saw the piled-up bodies of at least fifteen wolves on the ground. Most likely the casualties of their confrontation against the vampires. This isn't good.

While the rogues stood in line waiting for us to catch up to them out of nowhere, two of the female vampires walked over to them. I guess they felt sorry and decided to help. Fuckers, they were killing them twenty minutes ago. They should stay out of it.
