Alora POV
It was still early in the morning, the sun had just made its first announcement in the sky. I kissed Kasthor goodbye as we both headed our separate ways.
About an hour after I started leading my morning run, Thana became increasingly tense.
"Alora, something is wrong." Thana would never be the first to worry, but today she was really shaken off.
"What's wrong?" I asked her, concentrating on the odd change of scent in the air.
"We need backup ASAP! At least fifty wolves are heading our way on the fourth South-West guard post!" The terrified voice of one of our guards made its way into my brain through our mind-link.
Damn it.
It's happening.
Thana redirected the group, and I contacted every available wolf, calling them to join the fight. Fifty Wolves is not a rogue excursion. That's an army of wolves. This was going to be more than one-on-one combat.
"To the three guards at the Fourth Post, retreat to the left side of Hare Hill. That will be our meeting point. All the available warriors head there. Members of the Alpha squad, secure the pack in the first safe house, stand your ground, and keep them safe. To the rest of our guards, stay on your posts. Make sure no one else enters our territory." I mind-linked all of our fighting warriors.
"I'll be there with my squad in 20 minutes. Wait for me." Kasthor joined the link.
At this point, Kasthor was working on the last safe house at the North-Eastern border, the complete opposite side of the incoming threat. The fifth safe house wasn't 20 minutes away. It was more like a 40-minute run at full speed. There's no way he will be here before the rogues reach us.
I'll have to lead the attack and hold long enough for him to arrive with his squad.
Thana got us to the meeting point in about 5 minutes. The three guards and at least twenty other wolves had arrived there. My entire squad was here, Roger wasn't far away, and managed to get them all here in time. Thana growled at them to encourage their wolves for the incoming battle and we quickly moved to our battle formation.
"I'm coming in with my full squad" Mathias mind-linked me. Thank the goddess, hearing Mathias gave me a sense of relief. We weren't alone.
His squad is the most prepared for large attacks. Mathias leads some of our deadliest wolves and their experience in combat is unmatched. Most of them fought during the Tyrant's war alongside my dad.
I took my place at the front and center of our formation, flanked by Roger and my strongest warriors. Every single wolf standing with me was a capable, trained, and skilled warrior. There was no fear of death, only the desire to protect. And so, I felt Thana gripping the ground, filing her nails in the dirt, taking a deep breath, and getting ready for carnage.
The sight in front of us was something I had never seen before. Almost seventy wolves were lined up and ready for blood. They all had the same goal, take us out and take our pack.
A shirtless tall man probably in his thirties, wearing only faded ripped jeans, stood at the back of the rogue army of wolves. He had a smirk on his face. I could almost see him drooling, incapable of hiding his satisfaction.
"Let us see if you are as terrifying as your reputation promises Grey Terror," The man screamed overjoyed, stretching out his arm and pointing one finger straight to me.
I think he's talking to me, but I have no idea what he's talking about. No one calls me that way.
I let out a deep and raging warning growl—a clear statement for the intruders that I will protect my land.
