Alora POV

I looked from Sophie to Ithax. He was kneeling down, with a smile from ear to ear, a tear rolling down his cheek, holding onto the precious tiny beat screaming out loud his first breath.

The pup was born, and he was absolutely perfect. Such a tiny thing. This was so surreal. His chubby legs, his swollen belly, his rounded cheeks, all of him was perfection.

Ithax cupped his newborn to his chest, holding him with divine strength. The tiny beat looked so full of life yet so delicate. What a wonderful miracle. How was he inside his mother only seconds ago?

I snapped back to reality as Sophie gripped my arm. I looked at her exhausted frame, with her eyes full of adrenaline searching for her pup. Agatha helped her guide her hips down as I turned Sophie's shoulders around to rest her back against the pile of cushions.

Ithax placed the tiny beat on top of his yearning mother who was crying tears of joy. And so mother and child met face to face. I sat beside them admiring the beauty in front of me, while Agatha kept examining Sophie and asked Ithax to cut the umbilical cord, which he did right away.

What a rollercoaster. Tonight has been the ride of my life.

Ithax came to rest on his side glued to Sophie and resting a hand on top of his pup's back. All four of us scrunched up together, I couldn't help but feel like stepping back to give them some space, but Thana was fighting me, she wanted to stay close to the pup. I assumed she was just internalizing her mate's feelings, although they did feel like my own.

I wanted to stay on guard, and as close as possible to the tiny beat.

"Have you decided on a name yet?" Agatha broke the silence of the moment.

"Theus" Ithax and Sophie said in unison.

"After my brother" Ithax added.

My heart skipped a beat. Theus... Theus Lykos, the tiny beat. Beautiful.

"I'll let you have a moment together, and then I'll have to ask Alpha Ithax to bring over Theus to his checkup station. Meesa will be doing a quick assessment and then he'll be back in your arms okay Sophia?" Agatha asked.

Sophie didn't respond but she nodded in agreement hugging her baby boy.

"Okay Thana, we need to step back now, let's let them have their moment" I reached out to my wolf trying to rationalize with her.

"No. We'll guard him."  Thana growled back at me, with a sense of fury building up in her.

Shit. That's not good. I know she means no harm, but I can't let her snap on me. I had to get out of here.

I pushed myself up, feeling a cold distance immediately as I stepped away from the tiny beat. Every cell in my body was fighting me. Not one piece of me wanted to be away from this nest, but I couldn't risk losing control. I had to fight myself to ensure Theus was safe.

"Where are you going?" Ithax's eyes landed on me, he was somewhat confused but mainly upset at my sudden retreat.

"I'm just going to step outside for a little bit to let you have a moment." I gave him a soft smile, trying to hide the pain of leaving them.

"You are part of this moment. Don't go." That was an order. And as much as I wanted to obey and stay, that was me being selfish and borderline reckless. I could already feel Thana ready to take over me, that's too much of a risk.

"I'll be back right away," I told him, this time the sadness was evident.

As I stepped out of the build-up blankets I felt the unsettling growl of my wolf trying to take over forcing me to stay. That's it. I had to get out, or Thana would be in charge, but the stubborn wolf wasn't letting me move.
