I know I said that you should probably avoid making your OC characters be carbon copies of the canon main character so that the story doesn't just become the same thing just with a clone in it, but SOME of you all, i swear to god...
I didn't say to go the other side of the spectrum now, have i? Cause you're not making the story any less predictable. You're just making the story take place on Backwards day, constantly. And that gets old...quite fast in fact. But fret not. I've decided to, once again, bestow some knowledge on you, dedicated students. SO BUCKLE UP, KIDS! Class is in session.
First things first, how can one knows for sure when their character should agree and when it should disagree with a canon character? It's not like there's a guidebook anywhere to explain this, right? Well, how about I answer with a question of my own. Why the hell are you writing a character like they're a paper cutout to begin with? Did y'all skip my lessons on main characters? Unbelievable!
First step, ladies and gents, is, and I can't believe I have to actually say this out loud, GIVE YOUR CHARACTER A PERSONALITY, a set of personal beliefs, for Christ's sake. How y'all expect him to make important decisions such as with female character to add to his harem if they don't a personality to dictate their tastes? Like, there's a reason there's an O in OC, at least SOMETHING has to be original, you know?
But assuming you follow this step, can I just ask WHY you want your character to always contrast the canon MC?...
...
OH.
Well, that's not quite what I had in mind when I taught you that Reasons don't matter. Do you at least have any themes regarding your stories to justi- OH WHO AM I KIDDING? You're here now, taking this lesson. Of course you don't. Alright, guess I'll throw in that lesson in too. Let me edit the title real quick. Now to get our hands dirty, you can't sustain a story on just fishbones alone. The fishbones in this case being edgy pictures, lists of superpowers and just 20 pages of harem bait. I mean, you can do that, it's not just going to give that good of a look. Grab a mirror somewhere in the house and ask yourself why did I write this?
