Well, since yesterday, Rin and I had been on good terms. As in loose friends. Hey, no one calls me a little girl and gets off easy.
I'm not sure why, but it's easier to pay attention now that I don't have an annoying enemy to focus on. I looked down at him, noticing his slightly pointed ears. I'm still curious, even now. Why are his ears pointed? It also seems like he has pointed teeth... I spaced out while thinking about this, staring at the back of his head.
"(Y/n?)" I jerked my head up.
"Huh?"
"Do you know the answer? What is the most common demon?"
"I dunno." (I actually did, but I had blanked out.)
Yukio sighed.
"Coaltar. You should know this."
I mentally facepalmed.
The bell rang, releasing me from this cramped room.
"Ahh~! That's better!" I exclaimed, walking out of the cram school. Class was over for today, but I didn't feel like going home, so I sat on a bench.
I sighed.
Coaltar. How did I not get that? That was one of the first things I learned!
"(Y/n)?" I perked up at the sound of my name. I looked into the unforgettable blue eyes, which belonged to Rin.
"What's up?"
"Can I sit next to you?"
"Sure."
We sat in silence for a few moments.
"(Y/n)? Can I ask you something that might not be any of my business?"
"Fire away."
"What's your family like?"
At the word family, my expression darkened.
"There was my mom, my dad, my two sisters, and my little brother."
"Was?"
"They're all dead now. They were killed."
Rin went silent."Sorry, it was none of my business."
"No, I need to remind myself every so often." I turned to look at him, "Why do you ask?"
"Lots of the students at the cram school have lost family members to a demon, like me. Both my mom and my dad were killed by Satan himself. So I thought that maybe-"
"They weren't killed by a demon. I know that for a fact." I muttered.
Rin put a hand on my shoulder.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked."
He got up and walked away, leaving me to my thoughts.
~That night~
I looked around the room I was in. My old house. Then I saw my family.
"Mom? Dad?" I looked at the butcher's knife in my hand, which was stained with the blood of my parents.
And my siblings. The entire scene in front of me was flesh and blood, making me scream.
"(Y/n!) (y/n)! Wake up!" I looked into my best friend's eyes, warm tears running down my cheeks.
"Izumo..." I sat there, sobbing until I fell back asleep.
~At school the next day~
"(Y/n), you look terrible! What happened last night?" Rin asked me as he walked with me to class.
"Just a nightmare, I'm fine."
"You're obviously not, you should quit the tough girl act."
I sighed.
"Was it because I brought up your family yesterday?"
"Rin! Class is starting! We've gotta hurry!" I exclaimed, intentionally ignoring him.
"You could at least answer my question..." he said under his breath, running to catch up with me.
