I was walking down the street when I heard it. A little crash. I looked around.
"Huh?"
"Shh! Get down! That girl heard you!"
"Sorry, V-"
"Shh!"
I looked down the alleyway to my right.
It was faint, but I could see two small figures.
"Rin?" he looked at me.
"Yeah?"
"Do you see that?" I pointed down the alleyway at the figures.
"Not really, but yeah."
I bravely stepped toward them.
"Hello?"
"Crap! Sis, stay down!"
"Alright..."
There was the familiar sound of a sword sliding out of a scabbard, and with unreadable speed, a small figure lunged at me.
By then, I had my gun out and I deflected the small blade with it.
The owner of the knife leaped back, and I noticed that it looked like a eight-year old boy. In fact, he looked really, really familiar.
"Hey, I'm not gonna hurt you, ok?"
He growled.
"Like I'd trust a little girl like you!"
My face turned angry as Rin prevented me from shooting that kid.
"He called me a little girl, Rin! Lemme go!"
"No, (y/n)! You have that dangerous look in your eyes!"
"That's the point!"
The boy stared at us like we were idiots.
"Vale? Do we really have to keep hiding like this?" a girl's voice said.
A young girl who looked older than the boy stepped out of the shadows.
"Sis! Get away!"
"No, Vale! Look at them! Don't they look like mom and da-"
"Shut up, Aero!" the boy, Vale, seemed hostile even toward the girl. She flinched.
"Vale-"
"Aero! I said shut up! I'm dealing with this!" he yelled, "Who knows? Maybe you guys are demons."
"You know about demons, huh?" I muttered.
"Well?!"
"Sorry. We kill demons. We're exorcists."
That only made him scowl.
"So you've come to exorcise me?"
"You're a demon?" Rin asked.
"Yeah! Are you deaf?!"
Rin approached Vale slowly.
"Look," making sure that no one else could see, Rin showed his tail, "I'm a demon, too."
The boy's eyes widened, then he let out a soft sigh.
"I'm not the demon, it's my sister, Aero. My name is Vale, and all I'm trying to do is protect her."
Sounds like me with my little brother...
"Nice to meet you, Vale, Aero. My name is Rin. That's (y/n), my girlfriend," he said softly, trying not to scare them, "Now, do you have anywhere to go?"
Vale looked up sharply.
"What do you mean?"
I also shot Rin a questioning look.
"Do you want to come stay at my place for a while?"
"Whaaaaaaat?!" Vale exclaimed, "N-"
"We'd love to! Thank you, uh, Rin, was it?"
"Yeah. It's no problem."
Almost as if it were natural, Vale and I looked at each other with the same look.
Then we glared.
"Are you two twins?" Rin asked kindly.
"No," Aero responded, "Vale's my younger brother."
"Alright. Aero, I know how it feels to have a brother. I have a younger twin."
"Really? Do you guys look and act the same?"
"Not by a long shot."
I was having a glaring contest with Vale, until I realized that he reminded me of Rin.
Then my eyes softened.
"You guys look like a mess, come on." I grabbed Rin's elbow and pulled him away.
"Really, Rin? What gave you the idea to take care of them?"
"They're obviously homeless. Their parents are gone, can't you tell?"
I was suddenly very glad that I hadn't asked where their parents were.
"Did you hear what Aero said? She said that we looked like their parents. Is that even remotely possible?"
"It could be..."
"Rin?"
He turned toward Vale.
"Yeah?"
He let out a sigh.
"Aero and I have agreed..." he sighed again, "To come stay with you for a while."
Rin smirked.
"Alright, we'll be staying with my brother, Yukio, and (y/n) will be too."
"Ok..." the three of us said simultaneously.
"Let's g-" I started to walk ahead, when I processed what Rin said.
"HUH?!"
~Time skiiiip~
I wonder where Rin took Aero and Vale... And why did he tell me to stay here? I'm curious and keep thinking, then I eventually fell asleep.
I woke up to Aero shaking my shoulder.
"(Y/n)! Hey!"
"What..." I moaned softly.
"Get up, sleepy head!"
"Why?"
"Come on!"
I stood up, still tired. I was wide awake as soon as I was pulled into a hug.
"Thank you for taking us in, (y/n)."
I recovered from my shock a moment later.
"You're welcome. But it was Rin's idea."
"You stayed to help."
It's like she's determined to get her point across, no matter what!
I smiled.
"Okay, and I still will."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry about adding Aero and Vale! I have two reasons for adding them.
1. I ran out of ideas
2. They're vital to the whole storyline.
I know it probably ruined the entire thing, but believe me, they're critical to- oops. Let's not spoil anything!
