Smother by: Daughter
I watched as everyone moved on while I stayed stuck in the same spot I had always been in.
I was bound by a rope that was as fragile as a strand of hair but felt like it was strangling my neck.
I couldn't breathe anymore.
I could've broken free but I was bound by these shackles of memories that clung to my wrist like they were the last memories to ever fill my husk of a soul.
They held me back, chained to the walls of my past, while I suffocated.
Screaming until my voice was a hoarse whisper that only reached as far as my chains would let me.
I was being smothered by these memories that clouded my vision desperately trying to get me to feel even a morsel of that emotion I once held.
They were overbearing and it was everything I could do to look away.
The world beyond the chains looked beautiful too.
Maybe I could've had part of that beauty too.
If I had had the strength to break the invisible shackles holding me back.
